What is ticket time

    I've seen numerous water and vacuum truck jobs
    that pay by the hour. Some say they pay by ticket time
    and others say they pay non ticket time.
    what does this mean.
    im assuming that one of these is just another
    way for a driver to do work without being paid for it.
    i could be wrong though.

    Ticket time is per load. Company might offer 18hr @ 2 hours a load. Dispatch sends you to a rig to fill an outside reserve with fresh water. They may offer 1 hour travel time @ 18hr. The first load you charge 1 hour travel time and 2 hours on the ticket. The rest of the loads you charge 2 hours each. You may do 12 loads in a shift or you may do only 3.

    At the end of the shift if you did 12 loads you would charge for 24hrs @18hr plus the one hour of travel time if offered. Make sure the company man signs the ticket.

    On the other hand if they send you to haul produce water they may offer 2.5hrs @ 18hr a load but you may sit at a disposal for 4 hours due to the company forcing a dispatch to certain disposal sites that may be topped out. In reality at the end of shift you may only have 3 loads on your ticket so you only get paid 2.5 X 3hrs for that shift which 7.5 hours for the 12-15 you put in might even out the days you did a fresh water transfer and made extra.

    Ticket time is a gamble, if the trucks are good and the disposals the company uses are quick chances are they pay hourly. non ticket time.
    If the trucks are slapped together OTR junk with cheap equipment that takes 20 or more minutes to load they will probably offer ticket time.

    Hey there bud. What that guy said seems like a decent answer. On the other hand, I've been out here working hourly, and have been going up to a lot of water haulers at the disposals asking about their companies and whether they are paid hourly or ticket. The guys that get paid ticket time seem pretty happy, one guy yesterday told me he was pissed because he had a slow week and only made $2000 before tax, here in Southeast New Mexico/West Texas, his higher wages are $4000-$4500 a week before tax. Averaging $3000 a week. So..... yeah this ticket time is looking interesting, lot's of the Hispanic family type looking companies or whatever seem to pay ticket time and definitely got to watch out who you work for in terms of getting paid, but I'd say if you choose the right ticket time company, you will make way more money. If I work a 70 hour week paid hourly at $18.50, I'll average about $1500-$1600 before tax.... So I don't know, if you want to be home every night, thats the way to go, if you don't mind sleeping in your truck and staying on location for a few days at a time or even going home every night depending on the company, go ticket time and stack that cheddar. Its oil time baby. Lets make some money.
