HTQ, since Flash hit the "mad button," does that mean he is no longer adorable?
It is quite unfortunate, the opinions people form about trucking. The legislative proposals is disturbing. While it is great that you are getting involved in advocating for truckers and the industry, Hometime, it seems like shippers and receivers need to get on board and do some serious advocacy too. There must be attorneys attached to the shippers, receivers, and various trucking lines. They need to get busy too. While some laws may appear to be necessary (vague and broad, in general laws), with many laws that ate added or alterred, I think our country has simply gotten too big for its britches! Too many idealist people trying to line their pickets or enhance their egos!!!

HTQ I AM NEVER WRONG. LOL
We as drivers do not have the money to compete with the Mega's as individuals. What you are doing HTQ is great and our jobs to help change the public perception is more kind to the 4 wheelers. Share the road but we need to have stricter guidelines for training so we can get better new drivers out here. I know some of the new drivers are good but a lot are not being trained correctly so they have bad habits like not moving over or slowing down for disabled or emergency vehicles on the side of the road. It is little things like that, that create a bad attitude towards us. We are suppose to set the example out here but that example lately has been bad. We used to be Knights of the highway now we have been classified as Serial Killers. I have seen commercials on TV that vilify us. There are so many factors that we haven't even hit on as it is a very complicated issue.
passport I couldn't be a leader for anything except on foul language.
Be safe out theredennisroc, gntorres61, passport220 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Men that pat women on the head and say " Oh you sweet little thing, I appreciate the effort but you don't know what you are talking about because I heard some men say something different" are never adorable. Then when they get called out over it they feel like they have been attacked and say maybe you should use that big mouth of yours to try and change things. An adult conversation about that survey would have suited much better ....what was wrong with saying "There was a segment on the radio about a recent survey that says drivers are well thought of. Did you hear about it? What do you think?"
That survey is already being met with skepticism. I have read articles that say as much as 49% of the people surveyed had or knew someone in the industry.
That survey was most likely part of the ATA's response to an ad that was in the June issue of a magazine .....the trucking industry took offense to the ad, not the general public. The problem is that I am sure the advertising agency did their homework and knew what the perception of truck drivers is....and came up with an ad that played upon that belief. They wouldn't have printed it unless they felt it rang true with their intended audience.

This ad hit the mark because of this study -
In 2009, the FBI released the results of a five-year long study (the Highway Serial Killings Initiative) investigating more than 500 unsolved murders of prostitutes, hitchhikers, and stranded motorists, many of whom were dumped on or near major trucking routes. The FBI has speculated that many of these victims were murdered by long-haul truck drivers, some of whom may be serial killers. Investigators surmise that the mobility and lack of supervision enjoyed by long-haul truck drivers have contributed to this phenomenon.[SUP][22][/SUP]jaso37, passport220 and dennisroc Thank this. -

Quick Question does Trans Am require Company Drivers to Trim or shave if they have Beards? Wasnt sure if that might be a company Policy -
After roundtripping from OKC to Dodge City KS and back. Finishing my 10 and heading over to Goldsby OK to Riverwinds Casino to give him/her my loaded trailer which is finaling in Conyers GA and grabbing their empty and doing God knows what with it. Wouldn't mind a short night tonight. Running overnights is catching up with me even though I can see the benefits of running nights. No traffic, no trouble finding parking in the morning, but I miss running days and a night sleeping schedule. Can't have it both ways.
wulfman75, passport220 and dennisroc Thank this. -
According to the company drivers handbook, beards and mustaches must be trimmed cleaned and combed.
-
I think there is a general statement that drivers should keep a generally orderly appearance but no hard guidelines, regs or requirements.
