Diesel and fuel surcharges

    True, it all depends on what your base rate is, and since most base rates are different, there really isn't a "normal". These numbers are all variable, though the formula remains the same. DOD uses $2.50 as a base fuel cost so I used that number in the example, but the base fuel cost can be whatever you want it to be. It's really up to you and your customers. Same goes with Fuel Efficiency. If you are running the calculation at 6 mpg you will get a lower fuel surcharge than if you run it at 5 mpg.
