I am trying to find a downloadable (PDF format) DVIR that I can attach to the DMV sheet so it prints double sided. Does anyone have one that they would be willing to share?

I would also like to hear from those who are or were instructors or examiners for CA DMV to get their input?

    OK. Same topic, new question:

CDL Skills test in CA? Which skills are the examiners likely to ask for:

    1) Straight Line Backing
    2) Offset Parking/Backing (Driver's side)
    3) Offset Parking/Backing (Passenger side)
    4) Parallel Parking (Driver's Side)
    5) Parallel Parking (Passenger Side)
    6) Alley Dock (Driver's Side)
    7) Alley Dock (Passenger Side)

Does the examiner care if it's pretty, or just that you accomplish the goal without knocking down any cones? How many pull-ups, get out and looks do we get?

Im currently in CDL school with Knight Transportation and the way the instructor put it is that they do not care if your backing is pretty. They will be checking that you are in the boundary and have not hit any cones. You will be allowed around 2 pull ups with 2 walk arrounds before they start taking points off.

I am worried about which skills I should continue to practice. I am within the zone on straight line backing, and can do offset to either side cleanly, but not pretty, and can do driver's side parallel parking, but not passenger side.

I got to where I am basically from repeating each one for literally hours each. I have not started with Alley docking like the others, but I think by attacking it the same way as the others, I should be able to get it. I have roughly 2 weeks left of school before testing.

I know the idea is to hit ZERO cones, but how many can we hit and if we roll over the base of a cone without knocking it down, does it count as a knocked cone?

I understand the goal of the training is to get to the point where I am knowledgeable enough and skilled enough to pass the test; but I would be lying if I said that my goal was to 'just' pass it. I would be aiming for as few points knocked off as possible. I do NOT want to do the test more than once.... 'One and Done' then I can go to orientation for a company (which I have basically decided and will discuss in another thread).

You fail if you nock over a cone but if you just bump it then its around 6 points per cone and bump. You only get around 20 points to lose I believe. Have yet to take my test so dont quote me on the total but you are not allowed a lot of mistakes before failing. Two tests you will have will be straight line and 90 degree ally docking.

The computer will pick which skill tests you will perform. You will definitely be asked to perform a straight line back and offset. The computer will pick between an alley dock or parallel park. In West Sacramento they only test a sight side alley or blind side parallel. There is no blind side alley dock or sight side parallel.

    Same subject; different question:

Last week, I went ahead and took the knowledge questions for the Tanker and Doubles/Triples endorsements. I also signed up to take the HazMat, even though I haven't been fingerprinted yet. I had planned on taking this knowledge test on Friday when I am there taking the skills test. Assuming I am 'one and done' on the skills test and pass the knowledge test, will DMV go ahead and issue me a temporary CDL and wait to mail my 'real' one until I do my fingerprinting?

The dmv will not issue you a CDL until you pass pre trip, skills and road test. Are you talking about your permit?

No. I have my permit, since getting it, I tested additionally for the endorsements except for Hazmat.

If you've tested and passed your endorsement they will be on your CDL when you pass the pretrip, skills and drive. Your hazmat will not be valid until completing the background check. I'm not understanding what you mean by "signed up to take hazmat". Does that mean you paid for it but haven't yet taken the written?
