I have been pulling aluminum flats since 1986, to tell the truth, I'm getting tired of the arch.
-
When I first started pulling a flatbed, I was hauling steel coil using a 48' Fontaine Revolution with a 10' 2" spread. It worked very well and was extremely light to boot (around 7700lbs). I never noticed any side shift or twisting. Great trailer with an excellent coil package and unbeatable rub rail.
Lost Navigator and zenaddler Thank this. -
The rub rail Fontaine has on its newer trailers is really impressive.
Since OP will be hauling steel, it's important to consider whether or not he'll be running a sidekit to take securement options into consideration. -
Unfortunately that's the only thing impressive about their combos. I've been pulling a 13 Infinty step for almost two years.

7700 lbs is pretty good.
What's everyone's take on the Reitnouer MaxLite for hauling palletized building materials? -
Reitnouer is pain if you have to replace kingpin plate have to remove floor to do it. Looked at a 2004 that the plate was dished in front and rear of pin. Also don't care for there snap on stake pockets seen a few that popped out. And dont care for there floors either looks cheap to me. And unlike some people I see no use in buying new only to see it lose value after buying it. More partial to East,Ravens or Reinke. Just my take look close before buying.

I would normally be the first to agree with the new value depreciating the minute you drive away with it but the way used trailer prices are right now its almost justifyable IMO. Market is pretty hot right now.
-
Reitinour would be my choice, IMO they are the best built and best looking trailers on the road. The stake pockets are welded to the rub rail, so for one to "pop out" is nothing more than from abuse. Any older flatbed is going to have the king pin plate issue, easy fix for that, by a new(er) trailer.Shameless Thanks this.
