I have a little advice for new drivers. Give the Co you are working for 90 days. I know it's hard sitting sometime and putting up with ''B.S.'' but if you can make it 90 days things will get Better!! STARTING OVER is hard for you and familly and sometime the grass is not Greener on the other side:biggrin_25519:

I'm at the 3 month mark right now and things get better, well easier would be more accurate, each week. I'm pretty happy with the company and have no plans to leave any time soon for greener pastures. Even if I did though, I would think mimimum six months to a year unless the company was treating you really bad in the form of trying to get you to do things you couldn't do legally.

In many cases 90 days is the traditional probation period for new drivers. If a driver stays for 90 days then the benefits start kicking in. Such as Medical, paid days off, 401k's etc. Some carriers do start medical right away but that is the exception to the rule.

The highest turn over rate is within 90 days especially for the training companies. Trucking is VERY different from the average 9 to 5 job that John Q Public is used to and many do not make the transition to trucking for a myriad of reasons I will not go into.

Are you referring to the benefits kicking in or the learning curve and making more miles and thus better pay?

The longer you say the better you are. That is why it is important to do you check out the outfit before you start.

Yeap. Phil is correct, my colleagues. You should pick your first outfit wisely if you're green and stay with them as long as you can, preferably 3 years at the very least. Of course, in my dream world, you'd be starting out at a union company and thus would never have a reason to quit.
