I usually fuel at about half way between a quarter and a half but it seems like the fuel gauges on Shakers are wonky and I never really know how much I've got left beyond a guess. I'm only rockin 60 gallon tanks too so I'm hitting the pumps up a lot

Been down to computer estimated 13 gallons.
Isn't the sump draw in the tanks on the bottom? How is the last quarter "bad fuel"?
Bad fuel is when the tanker is refiling the station and stirring up all the sediment in those tanks. Or any fuel purchased from a pilot!

I've put 188gal in my twin 106gal tanks (98 gal usable). I've also had it start to starve under load and put in only 170 gal (turns out the passenger tank wasn't transferring fast enough).
But I never push it in the winter -- on top of minimizing condensation/icing, I'd like to be able to idle at least 2 days if caught in a storm.Hammer166 Thanks this. -
When your low on fuel take a bright flashlight and have a look..My pickup is on the very bottom center and no trash in my tank after 7 years and 750k miles..I dont know where your filling up.

In road-course racing they use surge tanks (sometimes called swirl pots). I've never seen one on a semi though...

I have most experience in volvos from day cabs to 780s etc, and I have always been able to drive over 60 miles on 0 gallons on the dash. Not sure how many are actually left in there. But I've ran the sucker dry dry dry a couple of times lol. The first time going up dinner with a Columbia at a little over 1/4 fuel it shut off on me. Goes to show that depending on the truck and where the fuel pump is some can drive farther than others

People, especially owner-ops, who often park for lengthy periods at the fuel islands and in places one otherwise should not park end up with all sorts of trash in their tanks such as coffee, soda, coffee cups, portions of subway sandwiches, etcMudguppy Thanks this.
