Last I looked, they had a failing 98% DOT rating. That in itself says a lot about a company.

yep.....and none of them come here before they sign up.....always after.
Always seemed funny to me that although you're sitting on your tail doing nothing, you don't have the time to research the companies your thinking about hiring on with. Yet, after you hire on with them, you have all the time in the world to find a shoulder to cry on.
Look, if the good Lord is willing, I'll never have to do the WE thing. But if life goes bad (as it can), I'd hire on with them, make the best of it, and take my (likely) well deserved lumps.

    Jus' sayin'

The experience you have means nothing to most trucking companies if you have not driven a truck for 9 years.

Most OTR companies would not put you in a truck by yourself with a 9 year gap in driving experience. What other REAL job offers did you have?

I'm not defending Western Express. The way they used to operate for single drivers was one run up into the northeast from the south or midwest, one short run while in the northeast, and one longish run out of the NE.
This was it. You spent a lot of time on I-81.
I never saw a run beyond Colorado, or TX. The west coast stuff was all handled by trainers or teams.
I worked there briefly because I had not driven a truck for a year, but at that time I had more experience than you did. I thought they sucked, mostly because of the poor pay, runs, and they pushed you to run illegally.
I did what I had to do to move on and find a better job. I hope I am never desperate enough for a job to have to go back there, and I flinch when I see a WX truck trying to park near me, or back into a dock next to me.
