Anyone know of a trucking company what drives local in Atlanta? I am about to get my License in a few weeks, I don't want to do over the road. I know a lot of companies prefer you to have some over the road experience but I just recently got married and looking to have kids soon so me being gone for days or weeks isn't an option for me. I have been looking at running my own authority with my father, he could keep me busy with loads for about half a week every week but its just trying to find something to haul the other half of the week that I'm having hard to find. Also I'm looking to be more in to flatbed trucking but I can pull a van if needed. I know a lot of tankers run local but I'm sure I would need experience to drive tankers.

Hi jmorris, you sound like you would be a fast learner if given the chance, you're certainly in a good area for local driving. But the thing is here anyway all the local outfits prefer exp because they don't have a training program in place.Doubt it's not much different in Atlanta. You could try some class B jobs like smaller trks. Some im sure has on the job training.Your classA cdl would work just as good for class B jobs.

Well I have been driving f350's with goosenecks and internatinal straight trucks for almost 8 years now. I've just recently got the chance to get my class a and would rather drive a big truck with a flatbed.

Maybe you can find a company that trains but that also may mean you'll have to stay out for a few weeks then they may have a local position for you.Alot of otr companies do have day cabs.TMC out of DesMoines is a pretty big carrier maybe they have day cabs that run out of Atlanta.

I think I read a while back someone was able to get training from either fed ex or maybe it was Conway. They did dock work and then left to train with a driver when able. I think the guy turned out to be a really good pick up and delivery driver.
