    I couldn't get the link to work to show the video clip. From their description I have no idea if this is about doing stupid things around trucks ....or if it is another slam against truckers. If you click on the link you can go to their facebook page and see the video,(which is nothing compared to what you really deal with), and read the comments. Most of the pro trucking comments are by folks with someone in the industry......and then there are the rest...

    Truck drivers may not be lining up to purchase Miss Manners’ latest volume on social etiquette but just because we’re a free and independent breed doesn’t mean we are without manners. Broadly defined, manners are a matter of common courtesy and you’ll find ours on frequent display on highways and at truck stops.
    Like the unwritten rules of the road that cause truckers to look out for each other and help motorists in distress, trucker etiquette is based on the principals that drive us all: staying safe and getting the job done.
    Nowhere is the need for a commonly agreed to set of operating rules more apparent than at busy truck stops where drivers of 18-wheelers are forced to tangle with auto, RV and pedestrian traffic. Truck stop safetynecessitates that truckers – and hopefully other drivers — act courteously and behave in an expected manner at truck stops.
    Truck Stop Etiquette
    If you’re a new driver or a non-professional sharing pumps with working truckers, remember that time is money for professional truck drivers. Every moment off the road is money lost. This reality and safety guide truck stop etiquette. But truck stop etiquette is also thinking about the next trucker who comes along. We all share truck stops. Treat others as you hope they’ll treat you.

    • When you pull up to the fuel island, choose a lane and get in line. Don’t back up traffic waiting for the next open pump.
    • Fill your tanks and move forward so the next trucker can pull up to the pump.
    • Park before you go in to shop, eat or grab a cup of coffee.
    • Park in designated parking spaces. Don’t block pumps, scales or traffic paths.
    • Help keep truck stops clean. Place your trash and any litter you pass in trash cans.
    • Use restrooms (parking lots are not urinals) and make sure they’re neat when you leave.

    Last year was a growth year for the commercial trucking industry, but it was just the beginning of a major growth spurt that is expected to fuel the trucking industry for the next decade. The U.S. Freight Transportation Forecast is predicting a significant 66% increase in overall commercial trucking revenue and a 24% tonnage increase by 2022. With rail transportation declining and intermodal transportation experiencing only slight single-digit increases, trucking is going to be King of the Road for the foreseeable future.

    Travis, welcome to the fold! Bi-Lo in Greenville SC will probably be one of your go-to stops headed to the house. I have deadheaded 350-400 miles to get to the house after my last stop so don't worry. Stops in NC and as Cranky mentioned, Atlanta too. Don't worry, TransAm will get you home.     Never offered a choice. As you say, hometime request system is totally automated. No one is going to offer you a choice, no one is going to notice if you take any hometime or not. I guess if special circumstances come up, you can contact your DM to work something outside of the normal policy but I have only done things using the automated system.

    I will have to go back and check exact dates but I think I was on the same timeline as you. I finished CDL school in December and wanted to get in the driver's seat right away but ended up having to wait until 2nd week of January to start orientation.

    I have been hired once and rehired twice by TransAm. All three times there is this one extra, weird week where you are just left hanging until they schedule you for orientation. It is after they hire you and offer you a job, so I don't think they are doing any checking, guess just integrating you and getting their orientation line up set.

    I had situation going on with getting my license that's the only hold up but I should have that taken care of today and I will call to try and schedule orientation

    the one advantage of TA is if you get to orientation your hired
    unless you fail p test
    many of these companies dont check your background until your onsite
