It's really not complicated. The client performs the /join, as well as most other operations, and one can simply double-click on a channel to join it.

Most of these guys would throw a brick at their windshield before understanding how to even install it.

I agree with you,.. but you need to step back and look at the population your trying to edjumukate here. There is a reason these guys do trucking for a living. Its what they understand,.. its what they are really good at. If they had the aptitude to get into computers then would have. Many can barely log into TTR. God forbid if they lost their login or pwd. We probably will never see them again,.. or probably with a different user name. LOL
No offense guys,.. but in the same regard,.. not everyone can drive a semi either.

Thats the reality of what your asking here.

If you want to have an IRC channel for truckers,.. I suggest you create one and then advertise it. That or join one of the many out there which already have a strong member base. That would be the easiest solution in my opinion.

Wow! People still use IRC? That is ancient history from before the web became what it is now. Forums are better / safer than IRC. IRC is only good for the unsuspecting to get malware.

Yes, many people from all fields and walks of life still use IRC. I've used it regularly for well over a decade and have never been infected with malware. :biggrin_25513:

The only way to get Malware using IRC is to accept a DCC send from someone you dont know,.. and even then it has to be executed. Most anti-virus should catch it the second it hit your hdd.

Its easier to get malware through a website using flash or java exploits then IRC.

Besides,.. when he says he's got some boobies to show you,.. dont. LOL

My favorite past time was to load up bots on unix shells, get then into a channel I created,.. lock it down. I mean like 50 - 100 of them. Back in the old days you could knock out entire channels by overloading the channel with text bombs. Since most people were on dial up,.. they would simply ping out from the server. Then ones left were usually on collage lans,.. so those I would bomb them with DCC send requests causing their TCP/IP stack to crash. I would do this to the kiddie porn channels,.. take them over and leave a bot in there as channel op and lock down the channel. Rinse and repeat for each new channel they tried to create.

Also,.. most modems of the day used Lucent V.92 protocols,.. US Robotics, Diamond, Advanced Data, Zoom.. they all used the V.92 commands. So a simple ping with the AT@_&D2 command caused the modem to hang up and disconnect from the ISP. That was my favorite when someone was using my nick and I wanted it back.

Then when Win95 came out,.. I learned of the OOB exploit 3 yrs before it went public and we were well into Win98 before MS ever patched it. That was great fun. Actually it worked on Win 3.1 as well. You could also corrupt the Winsock and force a new ini file.

As for malware,.. used to be a neat little exploit called the Back Orifice. 90% of all the kiddies in the warez channels were infected with it. It allowed you remote access into the computer. You could do anything while in there. I was ruthless to some. I wanted an MP3 song and the guy sending it to me said I was too slow and disconnected the send halfway through the song. So I rooted him,.. found the song I wanted. Took it and then opened a DOS console and used the /Fdisk /mbr /actok to his hdd.

I used to host a few FXP/Pub forums for warez groups. When scanning for open anonymous FTP's started to dry out... when Win2k and later WinXP came out there was a neat exploit that allow remote access directly to the computer. It was like looking directly at his screen,.. seeing everything he was doing. You could control his mouse, everything. Most of them were based in europe,.. so hacking euro computers looking for fast internet connections so we could load up warez for others to down load. Me and another guys were watching this guy trying to figure out who we were and how we got into his computer. We were chatting on ICQ while making little pop up boxes appear for him to read,.. we would give him little notes like,.. "Your looking in the wrong area" "Oooh,.. your so cold". "Getting hotter". He finally just unplugged his lan cable as we both were disconnected at the same time. LOL

There was so many terrible things you could do openly online and not get caught back then. Now I would be afraid to ping someone unless I was bouncing through 4 - 5 proxys.

Sub7 and Back Orifice worked pretty much the same. The one advantage Sub7 ad was you could control your victim via IRC. I had maybe 40 or 50 Sub7 bots in my little botnet. Much simpler then compiling unix shells.

Back Orifice was easier to get infected into someone's computer. I forget what it was called.. Melt or something,.. but you could decompile virtually any EXE and insert BO into it. The fotprint was so small they would never notice. They would have their little program they wanted and I had control of their computer.

    All alleged hobbies, of course!

I sit on IRC all day at work. Someone pick a server and start up the channel!
