I wanted to take a sec. and say i respect what you do for a living, especially the ones with families. As someone with a wife and kids myself, there's no way i would make it OTR, it's just not an option for me. To do what you do on the road, being away from your families for days or weeks at a time takes ALOT and i can certainly respect! Be safe Drivers!!!!
Respect to the OTR guys!

What do you do for a living ?

I drive a log truck. We haul pine logs to lumber and paper mills!

Some stay out 2-3-4 weeks by choice ... some not by choice. Used to be there was classic "OTR" (out 3-4 weeks for many), then things shifted to a lot of "regional work - home weekly". Now, there's still mostly "regional" work, but many carriers are working harder to maximize production of every power unit so they throw in some OTR into the regional mix, and now the avg time between home-time is getting longer again. Truckload trucking is an ever-changing business trying to keep up with current economic/business models.

I respect drivers that are home every day too.
That takes discipline, to work around 12 hours a day, go home and get enough sleep to do it again. -
OTR job is like the military it takes commitment, determination nd courage, be away from wife and kids means a lot. Be safe out there guys nd keep up the good work.

and sir I respect your wife, most women wouldn't accept their man giving good wood to others
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
yeah I wouldn't want to do that
plus they lose out on the HUGE tax benefits of being OTR -
I'm home every night I work 12-14 hr and a 1 hr commute to work so it turns in to out of the home for 16hrs some times Mon - Fri lots of the time I'm back punched in 10hrs after I punch out and seeing 2hrs are dead to commute that's 8hrs to do family stuff eat and get some sleep... but I still think OTR have it harder
tucker Thanks this. -
While I applaud the intent of this thread, IMO, all types of truck drivers deserve more respect than what is generally given. All forms of this job have positive and negative aspects, but the general public has NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO clue about just how difficult this daily grind can be... especially for us real drivers here in the Northeastern USAt!
But in all seriousness, as the saying goes, "Truckers keep America going!" It's a shame the majority of public attitudes and our pay grades don't reflect much respect for this job.
Guitar Man Thanks this.
