I might be missing something but isn't the fix for people stealing fuel to purchase caps for the fuel takes that require a key to open?
-
I thought of this thread yesterday when I was in costco. They had motion sensing LED lights. I don't know if they would be practical or not - maybe some are already using them. Thought I'd mention it.

No, you can get them off. I had to have a tank repaired from the actions of some nice trucker who ripped the cap off to get to 150 gallons of the fuel in one of my trucks. The driver went out to eat lunch with his wife while he was in his home town gone for three hours, the truck with the trailer was parked where you could see it from the fuel isles at the T/S and of course no one saw anything as busy as it was there on a sunny day.

The occupational title "truck driver" has by far the largest number of people of all occupations. We are talking in 5-7 million people or more are truck drivers. If say 5% of the population has larceny in their mind, at any given truck stop with 150 trucks parked there, 5-10 are potential thieves who themselves drove a truck onto the lot.
From there it is just motive abd opportunity.bergy Thanks this. -

I drive for Swift so obviously a lot of trucks look just like mine. I got out fast, I did not want to be accused of anything even though it was a mistake. I've had my tarps stolen at a company yard. I'm on O/O
Had my binders stolen, they couldn't get to the chains while the trl. was at a trkstp.
Had a guy steal 2 of my chains that was tied to my flip axle, plus 2 2" straps and a new 4' tall ladder. I drove down the road and found him at a rest area. Got my stuff back that time. Yes I even let him walk away. Why I'm still scratching my head over that... -
I was at Petro in Albert Lea. I was done fueling and there was a truck still infront of my so I could not pull up. When I came out, another trucker came up to me and just started talking and talking and talking. It was a weird experience. Now I know to be alot more suspicious.OFTOTR said: ↑There are all sorts of sleazebags hanging around trucks, and truckstops. Some are actually drivers, others, not.
I don't tolerate anyone jumping up on the step of my truck to talk to me. Too often you'll notice them surveying the inside of the cab, looking at whatever electronic stuff you may have. Some are just curious, some are making a mental list, others are checking to see if you are alone, have a co-driver, or maybe a dog.
I've had fuel siphoned, many lights stolen, even a fuel cap (that had an intact chain) stolen, hoses when I pulled tankers, straps, chains. Anything somebody wants or can sell, somebody will steal.
I don't tolerate 'friendly' truckers I don't know. Keep the XXX!!! away from me. Too many of my friends have been mugged or robbed right after the 'Hey, Driver' greeting....and it can even happen in a company terminal.Click to expand... -
This is one reason I like to remain anonymous here. If I were to talk about the company I work for, where I live , etc., other drivers can figure out who I am. Especially other drivers at the same company who might have a key that works on all company trucks in the same year. Then I go over to the "Electronic Connection" section of the forum and start talking about my toys and gadgets. That's kind of advertising what is in my truck if I don't remain anonymous.
Also if I am gone from the truck for very long, I have cables that I can wrap around a bar or some other fixed object in the truck and around a piece of metal on the frame underneath the door which I lock with a padlock. The cable is thin enough to close the door without obstruction. It is just an added measure to prevent an easy smash and grab or someone with a key.
If you search my posts you will see me talking about the company I used to work for. I switched recently and will not disclose the company this time. I didn't have anything stolen there but I did at another company and it was a driver with a key in that case who was never caught.bergy Thanks this.
