I am not saying he gives bad advice what I am saying is that when someone gets on here and says how they do something he gets on here and says that that costs to much money save your money don't do this or that because it costs money. Yeah it does and for someone it makes sense. I am not saying that it is bad thing to spend money. I have talked to him on the phone and he does seem like a smart person from what I have gathered.
If he wants to save his money for a trip to wherever it is his privilege and no one is questioning it. Just it does seem that when someone mentions spending a few dollars for whatever reason his response is it does not make sense save your money. Yes spending money on the same thing over and over for something does add up over a years time. But maybe something unexpected came up at home or maybe someone in the family needed an emergency loan. It might have benefited you to scan something to get the extra trip in early.kgbigholler Thanks this. -
Do all JCT trucks have apu's? The 2012 and 2014 Cascadias?
-
2012 is a maybe. At that time, apu was optional and came with a $101 side note on top of the truck payment. 2014 and newer comes with an apu and the extra cost is figured into the final price of the truck.

I have took good advice from Steel he's one of the reasons why I came over here to JCT and been here now for a lil over A year and a half... A lot of things I agree with but each person runs there business different like me.. I don't believe in being cold in the winter so I may idle a lil bit... That won't stop me from my family vacation at all... If you can't take 100 dollars to keep warm during the winter you need to b in a different field ... That 100 I stay out the truck stop eating and cook inside the truck its ways around stuff out here you just do what's best for you
MachoCyclone, Mr. Mister and popcorn169 Thank this. -
Wow, had no idea this would cause do much controversy. I think some if you are missing the entire point here.
I am not a money Nazi, but I definitely save money where I can. Scanning and idling are just two of those things. Driving 55 m.p.h.is another. (I rather enjoy my consistent 8 m.p.h. or better). Those things help my bottom line, so therefore I will continue to do them.
There are ALWAYS exceptions to EVERYTHING. Scanning and idling are an example.
Have I ever scanned? Sure....maybe 5 or 6 times in the 5 1/2 years I've been here.
Have I ever idled? Yes. Of course when my APU was down, and a couple of other times due to precautionary measures in extremely cold conditions.
When I chime my 2¢ in on the post, it's to point out things EVERYONE can do to save money. Everyone needs to remember that there are many people that simply read the threads for help, curiosity, advise, or just plain noisy. Those people don't participate on this thread, but it is an open thread for anyone to read and learn. That's their choice.
When I hear things that will cost you money, you're #### Skippy I'm gonna say something. I've mentored over 50 drivers here at JCT, and you'd be surprised how many didn't know this or that. The knowledge you have, you LEARNED from someone or somewhere. You sure as Hell weren't born with it. Knowledge you take for granted, someone else may not know or even thought about it. Even common sense stuff doesn't always come natural to some people and they have to be informed. There's ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that.
Now, moving on......When I read that someone always idles when it gets down to 30°, I'm gonna say something. If you don't like that.....move on.
How many people on here realized before the math was posted in a previous post that it's gonna cost you almost $1000 a month to idle just 4 days a week.? I guarantee that AT LEAST ONE individual didn't realize that. If my post made even only one person rethink their idling habits, I feel absolutely justified in my post and make no apologies for it.
My posts are never personal. I post on here to try and help people be successful in their business. To many of our drivers still have that "company driver" mentality and that will break a business. I don't get paid to mentor, not do I receive any special treatment or favors from JCT. There's absolutely NOTHING in it for me other than the knowledge that someone improved their business due to some advise I dished out.
Remember, $10 a week doesn't sound like much, but that's $520 a year.....and I can find much better things to do with that than waste it away. -
I'm guessing you're one of the ones that doesn't get it. I'm assuming you're an owner operator and you possibly have the truck paid off? Doesn't really matter.....
My ability to ENJOY MY LIFE NOW is because I know how to manage my business. Having a lease contract or being an O/O doesn't really matter.
I don't work hard......At all! I make money....LOTS of it. I don't kill myself and work 6 weeks to take 3 days off.
I'm gonna guess too that you don't drive for JCT. Maybe I'm wrong. But why in the world would I want to pay this truck off??? Should I be making $800/week payments? Why would I do that? I'd much rather make a $400 - $500 payment and bring home just as much money, if not more.
Do you average 3000 miles per week? I sure as Hell don't. I'm happy with my 2100 miles per week.
I don't stress, fret or get upset. I know I'm making lots of money.
I take tons of time off. Why? BECAUSE I CAN!!!
I don't owe a person or company a single penny. I am 100% debt free. It's cash or not at all for me. Wait, that's not true.....it's not "not at all" at all.....because I HAVE THE CASH!
What does the majority of your paycheck go to? Bills? Alimony? Child support? Garnishment? Mine goes to ME and to my choosing.
My profit per mile is excellent and my cost per mile is ridiculously low.
I travel the world with my family but more importantly, I SPEND TONS OF TIME WITH MY FAMILY. Does that make me a bad business person because I chose to do that now and not in the future. Hell, I may be dead next month.
It really sounds more of a jealously issue you have with my extreme success. Get over it.
So, in summary....do I think my soapbox is better than yours? Nope. I KNOW IT IS.
P.S. I'm no punk, but I like it when people call me an ###-hole. Read my signature again carefully because it's all true.88 Alpha, brown22607, MachoCyclone and 2 others Thank this. -
Just wanted to say "Thank You" to those of you that understand the purposes behind my posts.
MachoCyclone and kgbigholler Thank this.
