    Federal brackets do nothing more than double for filing married. If someone makes $20,000 dollars a year they will still be paying federal taxes throughout the year. Google "marriage tax" if you want a more detailed explanation.

    If op is marrying for love, then all this financial talk doesn't / shouldn't really matter.

    If saving money on your taxes is the motivator, then be sure deduct off of these tax savings the cost of her hobbies that you don't share, her cloths / shoes / bag expenditures, the cost of visiting and gifts for her family, mannys / pettys / hair treatments, the cost difference to by the home she wants vs. what you would want, the newly important need to decorate just right, the cost of vacations that you wouldn't have taken alone etc etc. Also factor the statistical drop in her income after she marries you.

    OP - Hopefully you are in love, in which case I wish you all the best. But I'd still suggest you get a prenup in order to keep the government out of your business in unfortunate circumstance that things don't work out.
