I agree with Hurst... the GPS is a great {("tool"}),,, did I emphasize tool? Once you learnt the bugs of your gps it is a great addition to the Map, shipper/receiver phone numbers and directions.

I'm really happy with my Rand McNally 720. It's layout is pretty good, and the response speed is acceptable. It does a fine job with HAZMAT routing, and it is really precise with ETA timing. Usually within 10 minutes at 500 miles.
I'm not the most GPS unit savy guy, but I think most people would like the 720. There is a new unit, 730, supposed to be faster. I will probably get it this spring and sell my 720.SheepDog Thanks this. -
I have the latest 720 in my cabinet..lol I bought it when my I thought I fried my current 720 but, it turns out I didn't fry it so, now I have a brand new, never been used 720 still in the box that no body wanted to buy..lol I will keep it for when the current one I use finally dies.

That's how it's always been done and somehow we all made out just fine. GPS is nothing but a crutch, learn how to read a map first and foremost, then call for local directions. Somehow that's how we all managed prior to gps or cell phones for that matter. Tried and true! -
yeah, but them days are long gone. the payphone no longer exists, the english language is quickly fading away. and most times, they have no idea where your at to tell you how to get there.
mattbnr Thanks this. -

Yes, this still works. -
i remember them days of doing it your way. that's one aspect of trucking i DON'T miss.
i came back out on the road 3 1/2 years ago. EVERYONE was surprised to see me cuz i never called for directions. and since i never called, no one was expecting me and therefore, wasn't ready for me. don't see that anymore.
