    It's not always fun calling up places and explaining your situation but a quick phone call reduces the amount of time wasted waiting for a response.

    Thanks for all the help, everyone. Just got off the phone with MCT and will be headed to orientation in Sioux Falls on 1 Dec. I will spend a little time with a trainer, then get my own truck. Not the best pay starting out, but works for now and gets me some experience, and being out of boise, hometime won't be an issue. There is even a bonus for military that have been honorably discharged within the last 6 months.

    $500/week while with trainer, then .31/mile to start. may be more options once I get in the door. I will stay with them for a good while, like I should have done in the first place. Recruiter said usual is 10-14 out with 2-3 off but can be changed with my dispatchers approval. I think I would prefer 16-20 out and 3-4 days off. but I am flexible.

    negativecold13, good that you found a company. While there's a bit of Swift bashing on the forum they have a terminal in Lewiston and need flatbed drivers. Starting pay for new trainees is much better than the $0.31 / mile, I think around $0.37. Teaming with your wife would be welcome when she's ready to get back on the road.

    31 cpm is that really enough money to justify all the work involved in flatbedding ?

    Does the company have good benefits ?

    NegativeCold, your time and experience is worth more than 31 cpm. You did similar work in the military and if they value veterans then it should show in the cpm.

    I do see your point, Truck Duo, this is for dry van and reefers...not too concerned with the medical since I have Tricare...most important thing is to get experience in a standard, but I read somewhere they were going to automatics. If that turns to be the case then it kind of defeats the purpose. I have no problems with an auto. In fact, loved that Volvo with an auto. But, I would really like to learn a standard and be confident enough with the gears to drive any truck. I thought the recruiter told me they had 10 speeds, mostly pro stars, will calll and check on that tommorrow. However, if they do run autos and I can't get a standard, may go back to drawing board.

    I drive for one of the companies that sub-contract to MCT. MCT Fleet trucks are all newer autos, most of the subs are a mix bag autos, 9's, 10's, and a few 13's.
    school trucks are 9's

    Not anymore, we don't. Haney now requires at least one year driving experience with a preference for two or more.
