yep the first of the so called c-16's. it is a 40 pin ecm engine. was out of framed in 2012. so basicly new as new can get for a 15 yr old truck.

    Congrats,

We just last month picked up the old iron, 1999/2000 Peterbilt with an 3406E, 5k since in frame...
OLD Pete is now hauling the heavier runs and the 2007 freight liner, D15 auto is picking up the slack ...

This thread shows me how much i thought I knew everything about CAT motors. I never heard of the 5ds prefix engine. So is this engine that has the multiple front cover gaskets that are known to leak over time? If it does and this engine was rebuilt not to long ago you should be good to go. Congrats on the truck and would love to see pics also.

yep the first of the long stroke cranks and big bore. yea even had a new crank. soon as paperwork is done i'll have pics. don't want someone to sneak in under radar and steal the ball. already have a deposit on it with a tentative agreement. I will probably end up dumping about 10 to 20 grand into it to set it up for what I do. or just like equipment I have bought before, someone comes along and makes me an offer I cant refuse--- down the road it will go!

so super hauler if a person was going to do a glider would you just go with the 7cz versus a 5ds because of the updates to block and front cover? Forgive me if this was asked somewhere else on here.

in a short answer, yes. the 5DS is a 40 pin ecm. the 1MM and 7CZ are 70 pin's. most if not all gliders are going to be setup for 70 pins. the front block and rear gaskets don't really concern me that much. I have seen them all leak eventually over time. the truck I have now is a 1MM. it has a leak on the front cover right behind the air compressor it will be getting fixed when I take time off shortly.

    SAR Thanks this.

Hi superhauler, " she will come around, she always does". Hmmm, where have I heard THAT before. One day, my ex-wife, and others, I'm sure, didn't come around, and 17 years went down the tube. Anyway, good luck, I like older iron too, although, your idea of older iron differs greatly from my idea of old iron. (See my '72 Pete below, gone now):biggrin_2553:
