1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I am new to the truck driving profession and are currently driving for a small trucking company in the Anaheim, Ca. area. I drive 430 miles a day, 5 days a week; sort of learning as I go! I am on criminal probation with a minor felony conviction that cost me my former career of 18 years. In 2.4 years I will be off probation and able to drive long haul, regeional, etc... What major companies are forgiving/understanding about criminal offenses (not driving or drug related) and would hire me with an immaculate work and 3 year CDL driving history?

Minor felony? I have no idea what that means. If it is something theft related, it will be tough.

AGREED! Iam confused on your term for a felony as MINOR.

YOU either have a felony or you don't. There is no in between.

I would have to say it's basically up to the trucking companies that you apply to, whether they want you to work for them or not.

    Good Luck!

none of them are, that question of asking for felonies and misdeameanors on your application is a ploy to get you to tell on yourself to save them the background fees charged and turn you down, companies do not want the reputation of criminals working for them, they would go broke because no contract will be awarded to them. Minor felony, hum thats a good one

Minor felon, you need to be honest first. To play down your crime is only going to make things worse for us all. When I read "I got Railroaded" I thought I was going to find an explanation of how some guy got fired, but instead I find a convict saying he put away for something minor.

The first thing anyone will think when you try to downplay being a felon is "OH CRUD, HE'S GONNA DO IT AGAIN!"

Do us all a favor. go tell your probation officer your not ready for the real world and go back to jail and study to be a Lawyer.

OK, a felony is either violent or non-violent---not minor or major. There are companies that will hire you if you explain it to them. If you tell them you have a minor felony, forget it--they've already stopped listening. Be honest, and give details. If you're already driving locally, what's the problem? Do you have any idea how many drivers would love to have a job that would allow them to have some home-time during the week?

Just wanted to add as well...............

Their are two sides to this.
Granted he did not explain what(MINOR) means for his case.

Working from former career states have different levels of classifications on crimes. We hear them all the time:
    -------------------------------------------------
-Murder in the first degree Felony 1
-Murder in the second degree Felony 2
-Murder in the third degree Felony 3

    ------------------JUST EXAMPLES----------------

The same holds true for MINOR felonies
-Theft in the first degree F1
-Theft in the second degree F2
-Theft in the third degree F3
    -------------------------------------------------

Now again without having more information their is no way at this time to say what it is he's dealing with
Some states base a felony on th amount of value an item has when stolen
    This makes Felony or misdemeanor

All states wod their laws differently but essentially mean the same.

If most people remember a few years ago when I beleive it was CA. instituted the 3 strikes your life program. If my memory recalls correctly, the first person to be charged with that level sentence was someone who stole a slice of pizza from a kid. The person did not attack the kid or harm him just took the pizza out of his hand and ran...........FELONY......HUH

This could go on and on for a number of reasons, but I will leave as I don't and no one else knows what he is talking about.

I do agree with patches to a large extent. You already have a job driving that most people want............Value it and let time prove itself.......
