Drove an auto from 08-10...ugh. Still drive a little p/t locally from time to time and the outfit I work with has both auto's ( actually ultra shifts ) and sticks. Dispatch has learned to give me a stick when one is available...... :smt003

The early ishifts were kinda clunky, but the current version works really well. The eaton in the freights suck donkey balls. Same for the ones in the petes, creeping the dock (especially up an upslope) is an exercise of riding the gas and the brake so you don't slam it in.
My nit with the volvo is the shifter itself. Mounted on the side of the seat as it is, with the manual shift buttons against your right leg, the right bump has it banging a downshift. I'd love to have it mounted elsewhere. -
Good to hear! Im currently researching engine and trany combos and have been looking into the glider kit c-15 vs the new paccars. Do you have any words of wisdom to pass on to a potential newby?

The pete was a 2012 with the paccar/eaton auto. Don't walk, run away if it's the same. Maybe the new ones are different. Test it by backing up a slight slope, see if you can creep it easily, that to me was the biggest pita. That, and it would start off in way too low of a gear, even bobtail it's start in second.toostroked Thanks this.

The start gear can be programmed at a dealership. My freightliner starts in 3rd unless I'm really heavy then it starts in 2nd.

If you live near tennesse, talk to fitzgerald gliders. They sell coronado, columbia, t660, t800, w900, 389, and 386. Their standard is Detroit 12.7 with 500 hp and 1650 torque. They can sell you with a c-15 6nz. I haven't tried yet, but I'm into once I get enough money.
I had some experience on ultrashift+ on my friend's 2015 prostar with isx15 450 hp. Gets 6-7 mpg at a windy winter day and 9 mpg in summer when it is not windy. Not bad and takes off like manual. I still prefer manual over auto. -
Been driving auto for a year now pulling tankers. Love it for the most part. Still prefer 16 for steep climbs but love the auto in rush hour.

I drove an auto for Werner that I was sent to pick up after it was abandoned. I had to stand on the brakes to keep the thing from rolling into intersections, horrible experience, could not wait to get back into my Pete.
damutt Thanks this. -
Yep i had the same experience. Got used to a stick, very little pressure to hold truck stopped
