HaHa. That's good. -
"All rig hands stop what you are doing, we need you to come over and kiss this driver's #####. After you are done, get yourself some mouthwash and get back to work"
Cetane+ and Skate-Board Thank this. -
I'm pretty sure we haul lumber for less than $1.85/mile...
-
There one on ITS right now listed at 1.57. Probably won't last long. I can't (won't) run that cheap. I can pick up cans and make that much.
-
Then do it....you can't say OMG rates suck! Then say well I don't run over 400 miles in the Southeast. Duh! And if it's a broker you're taking it anyway. It being the shaft.
-
Cluck, i don't run too much broker freight, but when I do, I get 2.50 and up. There are good loads out there if you're willing to stand your ground. All I'm saying is if people would stop taking dirt cheap freight and just say no, rates would have to come up and that would be better for all of us. Why would you argue against that? Even posting under 2.00 flatbed freight is an insult to me even if it is from a broker. We hauled 1.25 freight in 1989, so yeah, it's an insult.
The Admiral Thanks this. -
If it's a direct customer posting tarped lumber under $2 they'd be off my list of people to work for. I understand not working for less then $2 but Im not even interested in 200 miles for $400 anything. When I can stay near home I can pull down some pretty healthy rates on 100 or less miles. I agree with not taking loads cheap but I've got customers calling my name if I've got to take a load outta GA for $1.85 to get back to the house then so be it. I'll probably never haul the load again. If I do itll be direct and hopefully I can nab that other 25% the broker took. Sorry but when people say "rates suck" then say well I don't tarp I don't go north of i40 I don't go to New England I don't only do a 400 mile radius I don't this I don't that. My rates are fine. I pull really good rates out of places like Denver Faego and Massachusetts that usually complain about. But I don't have a list of won'ts and don'ts

No offense to you but stand your ground is BS. They just go onto the next truck. Sooner or later a large carrier will take anything to get their truck out of there and plenty of other people willing to take $1.85 since they got paid well to go there. Every day you sit your missing out on at least $400 to $600 in lost profits which you WON'T make up!GYPSY65 and Boardhauler Thank this.

I run a dedicated run 4 to 5 nights a week hauling steel coils. Sometimes the plant shuts down so I'll pick up a broker load or a load from a direct customer. I don't run all over the country , done that. We have a bunch of short haul lumber in and around Ms, but I haven't been able to figure out how people run it so cheap. I've hauled into GP and such (equipment) and have seen the trucks stacked up waiting to load. Mostly big companies but O/Os too. I'm not married to my truck and for the right price I'll let her go.
Enjoying the conversation though. Thanks.
