Why do all the owner ops love the long nose Pete's? If you were to become an owner op how or where do you enroll for randoms drug tests? If you own your own truck do you have to take a drug test if you're doing intrastate?

Long nose Petes are the best looking trucks by a country mile.

You have to join a drug testing consortium like through the OOIDA whether it's intrastate or not.

They enjoy dumping all their profit into their fuel tanks. I mean the trucks are prettier, I'll give you that.

Why are you so worried about drug tests? Got a little problem?

Ive Been drug tested 1 time in school and 5 times since November 2013 4 of them being randoms bud I'm asking a question for gods sake.

the reason I asked because in my town this guy owns his own dump truck and he has never had an inspection or anything I searched his dot number. So I was wondering if you own your own truck and own authority do you have to enroll in a drug test program but I'm willing to bet that if you want anything like that you do. He just perceived me to be like a guy to beat around the bush or cut corners.

Well most people that ask about drug tests are people who try to avoid them. Anyway, anyone who drives a commercial vehicle anywhere in the USA has to be drug tested. If you don't do drugs, you have nothing to worry about so its not a big deal

May not ever get a roadside inspection if he never goes by scales. But every commercial vehicle needs a safety inspection every year or every 6 months depending on the state. you must take it to a certified state inspection location

Four in the past year, I would ask safety or someone in management why.

I drive for a few companies (temp driver) who have DOT numbers but they do not have to be inspected by the DOT or enroll into a drug program. One company has a heavy haul truck and the CDL with a medical card is the only thing that is required, they don't do out of state but only local (within 20 miles of their place).

No you don't. There is no law that says this with one exception ===> IF you have an authority then you have to be part of a testing program but other than that, nope.

"Generally, all CDL drivers who operate commercial motor vehicles subject to the CDL requirements on public roads in the U.S. are performing safety-sensitive functions and are subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing (§382.103). This includes all full-time, part-time, intermittent, backup and international drivers.". Straight from theFMCSA website
