In a perfect world.... and just for the sake of discussion lets use some simple math. and keep in mind we are talking about average speed not how fast your truck can go.....on a 600 mile trip.(speaking in terms of non-stop driving) average speeds you avg. 70mph and get paid 40 cpm
you will make $240 I will do the same trip but get paid .43 cpm (which I do.)I made $258.00. what this translates into is you made it there 1 whole hour B4 I did but I made $18.00 more than you did. and when I get there your still waiting on the customer to tell you what door to back into. $18.00 extra for 60 more minutes of driving.... don't mean this in a disrespectful way by no means., but you take the faster truck I'll take the $$$$. I'm not out here to go fast and look pretty in my shiny truck I'm out here to make money. so I ask this question with all do respect.as much as it may sound like I'm being a smarta!@ I'm not. how important drivers is a fast truck to you?!! keep in mind here this is just on a 600 mile trip what about a longer trip 2000 miles say coast to coast @ .40 cpm in a (FASTER) truck you will make $800.00 in my slower truck @ .43cpm I will make $860.00. 2000 miles at 70mph you will have a little over 28 1/2 hours driving time invested. @ 60 mph I will have just a little over 33 hours. you got there 4 1/2 hours less but I made a little over $13.00 per hour than you did. $60.00/ 4.5 hours= 13.33 per hour not a huge difference no but what the hell remember we are sitting on our tails looking through a windshield .if driving a pretty shiny truck and going fast is more important than making a decent living than I guess as they say, different strokes for different folks. really folk not trying to be a stick in the mud I'm just saying what is speed worth to you? $13 dollars is $13.00 ... but.in terms of per hour. 10 more mph to me it ain't worth $13.00 an hour.DustyRoad Thanks this. -
this was suppose to be in response to tommygunnzz question -
if your the one driving 60 in tx on the 10 or 20 your a hazard. All money a-side who really wants to run 800 miles across TX at 60? really?
kirk, Dark_Majesty_06, Getsinyourblood and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've lost track of the number of times an hour has made all the difference on whether I sat all weekend, or kept rolling.
Dark_Majesty_06 Thanks this. -

I choose to set my cruise at 60mph. I generally get cussed daily by the hotrods that only know how to drive fast. You drive as fast as you want, you'll get there before me. I agree with that. However.... I WILL make my appt time, and I'll get a fuel mileage bonus while doing it. So, in the long run, I MAKE MORE money than you, while you drive with your foot on the floor.
Lets agree to this, I'm NOT going to change you "hotrods" and YOU WILL NOT change me.
Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.
