I am currently attending truck driver training, testing on Friday. Looking at all my options before I commit to anything. While checking on a company's website and after talking to a recruiter I was told that you are not allowed to have a passenger on the truck IF that passenger has a class A CDL. My question is: is this something you will find at every company or is this company specific? Does it have to do with DOT regulations? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Passengers on the truck?

Schneider doesn't allow non-employee passengers for the first 6 months of employment. If you're on your own as an o/o then I know of no laws that ban that; but you can find that policy at some companies.
Although it is a little odd that they'd refuse to allow you to carry a passenger with a class A. I can guess why, but that'd be a good question for the recruiter. -
Pretty sure that's most companies.
Why, guess they don't want you to be tempted to let them Drive.Mr.X Thanks this. -
Well that rules out training dont it! Are you sure it isnt non cdl passenger? Personally cant think of anyone with a CDL I would want riding in my truck for very long, lol.Vilhiem Thanks this.

Fmcsa rule 392.60 covers this. It says nothing about having a cdl or not. I would imagine that is a company policy and also if the passenger was allowed they would have to conform to hours of service also.

Companies don't even want your wife to ride along if she has a CDL.

only way around that is to team. And if you think about it that kinda defeats the purpose. You'll be asleep when she's driving and visa versa.

Right on! Thanks for all the replies. I'm not even inside the companies hiring area so it doesn't matter. Everything worked itself out. Going to just team.
