Ok well first off I just finished training at werner.
I trained in a 2014 freightliner cascadia, I knew it very well after 275 hours of driving it.
well I get to the terminal to test out. After that they give me the keys to my rig a 2011 peterbilt 587.
it looks great and well taken care of compared to some of the other rigs there passing out.
so I start it up. It started right up. I go to look around the inside well it warms up.
About 3-7 minutes went by and it just cut out. I tried to restart it several times after that and all it would do is turn over not start.
so the shop tells me to try priming it with the plunger valve. After 2 hours of looking at the manuals and searching online I think it's electric prime. In other words there is no plunger valve.
so my first question is what could be the problem? The shop is very slow and I want to get it running so I can get home soon! I have a wife and 3 young kids I have been gone almost 10 weeks.
also the cascadia had idle management to help keep the truck warm or cool well you slept. Is this also on the Pete?if so where can I get info on how to use it?
im sorry if this stuff has already been answered but I have no time to look.
Many other good or bad info on my rig is very appreciated!
thanks for your time!!!
Need info/help with 2011 Pete 587 isx15

if you press the clutch after no idle shutdown (that is the 5-7 min thing) see if it will kcik over. turn key off then press clutch to spin it over.
idle mgmt, not sure my 387 has the APU on it so i cant help there -
yes I've been pushing the clutch to the floor and turning the key after it goes thru it's cycle.
the motor turns/cranks over but it just doesn't want to start.
Im really hoping either I can get it running in the morning or the shop gets off there rears and gets it fixed -
Good luck driver!
let us know how it goes! -
No primer pump on an ISX, only the engine driven lift pump under the air compressor and the high pressure pump. Does it have fuel, and is there fuel in the primary filter?
Other things to check are the engine control fuse (if the diagnostic display works then the fuse is good IIRC), and if you have a meter make sure there is power to the shutdown solenoid with the key on. -
Sorry I didn't get back to this thread sooner.
what ever it was not even the shop could fix it fast so now the gave me a KW T660 it's a 2012 with 200k on it. I like it so far.
i wish it had as much storage as the cascadia I was trained in but I can work around that.
i got 30k in the box and it's blowing yhe cascadia out of the water.
very rarely did I have to down shift on hills that would have put the cascsdia in 7th I was in 9-10 with the 660
Thsnks for for trying to help guys. I'm off to bed so I can finish this run tomorrow
