    I am very new to this industry, but I am very interested in making this a new career to provide for my family. I am aware that this will be a new lifestyle for me and my family. I am looking for the best company sponsored CDL training program. I am hoping to find solid company that can give me the opportunity to learn the trade without any up front fees. Until I am working for them and making a paycheck to provide as well. I want to thank all the seasoned vets for their advise and direction to make the best decision on who to apply with. My area in which I live is Phoenix, AZ.

    Put your location on your profile; you may not be in the hiring area for some of them.

    One of the better deals out there is letting Schneider pay for private CDL school, then going with their tanker division. That's the quickest way to big paychecks for a family man.

    You're in the hiring area for Schneider van division because they have a new huge terminal in Phoenix. Ask about tankers though.

    Knight Transportation
    Prime Inc.
    Swift Transportation

    Get the tanker/hazmat endorsements right away, even if you don't use them initially. This way you're prepared for some good paying local jobs in a year or so hauling fuel (gas or diesel), asphalt, milk, chemicals. I've hauled acid to a couple of asphalt plants in Phoenix; East Coast to Phoenix.

    Hey Chinatown thank you once again. I see you have named 4 total companies. Which company do you think will provide the best training for a complete newbie? I also see you have 30+ years in this industry which tells me you know a thing or two about the industry and the companies. I was always taught to listen to your elders because they have been around they know what is really going on. Which is why I am all ears to you guys that have real experience and no a good decision from a bad one.

    There will be some differences of opinion here I'm sure, but that's OK.
    In my opinion here's best first then on down the list.

    Schneider
    Prime Inc.
    Swift
    Knight

    Either school program you choose from this list, you will get excellent training.

    Get all the endorsements, study the CDL practice tests accessed at the top of this page.
    Carefully ensure all your paperwork is correct when you report for school, such as, no laminated Social Security card, have original Social Security card and birth certificate.
    Ensure the application is correct, such as past employment history, driving record, criminal history.

    Thank you PChase for your advise. Thank you for the link I will be checking that out. Is it Prime that has you sign a year contact with them and once that year is up your training is all paid up and you owe nothing? If so, that sounds like they are truly trying to give people real opportunity there.

    It would be a much better idea to go to a community college and pull out federal school loans/grants to pay for your education. Even tapping into your states Workforce Investment Act grant to pay for school would be a better option than allowing a company to pay for your education. You don't want to be locked into a contract with a company, especially if you made a bad decision and hired on with a bad company.
