"Thrice"…..I haven't heard that word I bet, for 50 years ! Anyway, Hubby needs to adjust his mindset, if this makes sense. A different instructor means a different "slant" on instructions. Just as a different tester would be a different slant. I would have a little chat with the tester before he does his test. Tell the tester how he's failed, thrice, and is a little dismayed at himself and how bound and determined he is to get thru it and pass. I was once an instructor and I remember a student so very well that would get himself really worked up when he got behind the wheel. He would start breathing real deep and wipe his hands (which I assumed were getting sweaty) on his pants several times. He would then pause for about 15 seconds…..Usually at this point I would say, "well Pardner, let's get going". "Don't let this beast intimidate you" ! "Can you do it " ? " I think you can, do you think you can" ?

Yep, main thing is to relax. I know that's easier said than done but he needs to do it. some of that goes back on the instructor IMO. I was an instructor for 6 mos and can remember how nervous some of the students would get in training. Some women would cry and some men would sweat like crazy. In both of those circumstances I would try to calm them down and I was usually successful but; the most important thing is that your husband is careful! I've seen both nervous and non-nervous students who were careless and only in this instance would I yank them out of the driver's seat. Repetition is good and if he can't pass then I would suggest more training if not to just help him relax. He'll get it eventually.

Wait. You mean we're supposed to stop at a yield sign now? Shoot, not only do I not stop, most times I'm jammin gears and have columns of smoke coming from my stacks that would rival a freight train.

I think she meant rolled backwards. This is an immediate failure here in the states so it may be the same in Canada.

I believe the question should be "is the EXAMINER (the guy giving the test,) the same every time?" If that IS the case, their may be personality clash there that is causing your hubby to perform poorly, or the examiner to be much rougher on him than on most people. Or the examiner may just be a jerk. Or hubby may really NOT be ready to test.

    AMEN!

One thing about joseph. He tells it like he sees it. Now he may see it differently than most people, but I do believe he is honest in his opinions!:yes2557:

I think, (key word there,) that it might be best for your hubby to go to his instructor, explain what is going on, and see if the instructor has any words of wisdom. At this point, hubby is going to be gun shy, and understandably so. This is NOT going to help him.

His instructor should know how his training is going, and what areas he needs to work on. And the instructor might possibly be able to arrange for someone else to give the road test.

From what you say, about your husband being a "gentle" person, he may be a bit too easily intimidated, not only by the test, but by the examiner, or maybe even the truck itself. If you can convince him that millions of folks drive or have driven these big rigs, and do it safely and professionally, perhaps he can be helped to see that he should be able to as well. He is probably psyching himself out over these tests.

Oh one other thing here. I believe that if his instructor honestly believed that he should NOT be behind the wheel of a big rig, he would say so. But it is something he could ask the instructor, directly.

Good luck to you, and to him.:yes2557:

That was very reassuring Joseph, Big Don, Mateo, Allowme and Visionlogistice...You have all given me valuable input. I will have a word with him and tell him to
    1. Keep practising
    2. Have a conversation with his instructor and examiner
    3. To relax and be calm during the test

He'll pass next time. Even though you're worried, be strong and that will rub off on him.
