lol those guys are the worse drivers out here by far! There is one mountain that I'm concerned about I don't remember if it's in Wyoming or Oregon I just know that it's a beast. I found a place that will look at it and hopefully be able to fix it. I don't have an engine fan on this truck, it's an auto so it's tricky to keep a gear without the rpm getting way too high. So if I can't get it fixed you suggest starting out at 10mph on the bigger ones? I'm concerned about causing a wreck going that slow

The jake comes on I hear it, but it has little to no power, it's pretty much useless. It's slow stopping me even on flat grounds

I'll take a look at mine and see if I can find where the Jake is and will let you know

The advisory speed, even on small mountains, like Monteagle, go as low as 25mph. People used to run these mountains every day without jakes and a few lived to tell the tale. Leave your 4 ways on since you'll be going slower than steering wheel holders, and if they slam into you, it's their fault for going too fast to get over or slow down.T_TRUCKER⢠Thanks this.

I made it down Alive.. The mountain on 80 going into salt lake.. Had my 4 ways started down 15mph and I maintained it at 35-40. At the bottom I could smell my breaks but no smoke! It was pretty scary to say the least. I'm at the frieghtshaker dealership in salt lake. HOPEFULLY tomorrow "they say"

Sounds kinda like KY-15 via Hazard, Kentucky. There's a series of fairly steep grades with stoplights at the bottom of them. Of course, they all change to red as soon as you think you've got it.

I think I experienced a few of those routes years ago, dead headed to Lexington, KY many times to pick up Clark forklifts. Beautiful country. That and some shortcuts from Erie. Pa heading southeast gave me some respect for the hills back East and SSE. Little two lane roads chiseled outta the face of a cliff, Town and stop light at the bottom of a 15% grade, lol.
Hauled a lumber stacker to Savannah, GA one time, took a wrong turn knocked over about a 1/4 mile of construction cones, stopped ate and got directions and come to find out I was going the wrong way. Went back through the construction zone, and of coarse they had most of the cones standing up again, lol, not a happy crew!
Op, from now on you will have a good sense of when them brakes might be getting warm. I didn't realize you were driving an automatic! Don't listen to me, I probably wouldn't have had the wavos to get as far as you have! Thats like neutral with just brakes right? Be careful! -
Yep, drove many years with out jake break, is nice to have tho,
