Do what you wanna do. You're not going to take any advice any way. And (with or without Daddy's help) I see you failing. What the hell do WE care.

2 dui's and no business sense to speak of. I honestly don't see what could go wrong here. I say go for it.

Drivers that suggest to you going to school then a company aren't giving that advice because they want you to fail.In fact just the opposite. They want you to get the exp understand trucking and gain more knowledge. So what's wrong with that? Why not wait a yr,your plan of becoming and O/O will still be there.True there are schools that are fraud, but that's where you do your homework and find a school that is not fraud.I recommend a college with like a 3 month course not 3 to 6 weeks,Those are the schools that will rip you off.Good schools are not hard to find.Whats your father think about your plan?

    how old are you ?

how do you know you will like trucking?

just because your dad did it, doesnt mean its for you.

do you have money put back for breakdown etc?

are you buying new or used equipment ?

is your dad gonna help you run things?

many questions play into this scenario...

i would drive for a while first, then if you like it etc, buy a truck . no way i would buy right off the bat.

and no matter if you go to school, or own your own truck, you are still gonna be new with ZERO experience in trucking

    best wishes either way

    edit, add info

i am not a fan of trucking schools. they dont teach you enough. there is NOTHING like hands on experience.

i went to trucking school. back in 1991. back then, i attended from Jan. to March. trained in Commerce City CO (right outside of Denver for those of you who dont know ) we trained in the mountains. and in the snow. STILL wasnt enough to know anything. they teach you the minimum to help you get your CDL. you can NOT be properly trained and ready to go trucking after that amount of time, ESP NOWADAYS when you can get your CDL in as little as 2 weeks.

as much as you hate it tho, prob go to driving school. pay your dues, find a company to go drive for and once u decide if you do wanna truck buy a truck later....

I dont know why you would care, I wasent really asking you to care. I was asking why every one is saying the route to success is only rooted in a trucking school.

I cant name every one no, but I am studying the video that one of the CDL schools put out, with going with my dad to see the stuff on the truck it self. By the time in 3 months when i go to get a CDL a class license, I will have them memorized.

Thanks for being the only one to actually answer the question i was asking:) I think after reading all this i will give school a serious thought, as being a better investment than a truck. He thinks my plan is fine, I didnt put the whole thing on here. The plan isnt 100 percent saying I will be a o/o. I dont consider buying a semi as a bad investment, it will make it really easy to pass a CDL A class test. If i dont use it, and get hired to work for some one else, that is fine. The truck wont bust just being in storage, I have a place to keep it for free, and it will always be there if i want it.

Actually, a lot can go wrong with a truck sitting in storage, and cost you a lot of money.......
