I know they were bought by kag in 2003. Any former beneto drivers on here? Or does anyone know how the company was run or how the pay was?
I'm just curious because I know they changed the tanker industry with their equipment and safety methods. Any info would be much appreciated.

I worked for Beneto for 5yrs prior to the sale, then many years afterward. Steve Beneto is a very savvy business man, he made all the deals. They treated you bad, but the pay and the schedule was great. When KAG bought them, They kept the 'management' in place. These guys had no management training or experience in marketing. Without Steve's leadership, the customers started going elsewhere. As customers left, the solution was to intimidate drivers, ask drivers to bring in business while on the golf course (???) spread rumors about drivers, cut driver pay, vandalize drivers personal vehicles; ( throwing cups of soda, garbage into drivers cars) When I started there, there were 50 drivers between 2 shifts. When I left, there was 14. As long as they keep then uneducated Beneto Bully Boys around, this will not be a good place to work. One former vice president bragged that with only a 7th grade education, he was pulling down $175,000.00 a year. Which is just what you want to hear in a safety meeting after YOU took a $15,000.00 pay cut. ( yeah, that was Bill) I would not even consider suggesting anyone work there until all the Beneto Boys are gone. Although, from what I see on this forum, the other KAG terminals don't sound any different or better. The faces may change, but the game stays the same. Go to FDS, or Williams, but don't think about here as it stands. Ask some of the drivers you see at the racks if they're paid for everything they do or if working for free is " how you get paid, driver!" ( Thank you Karl V. for that quote.)

Thanks Jim! I have worked for FDS for 3 months and love it! Its my first tanker job and I don't plan on leaving lol.
Did Beneto require you to polish those trucks? How much were drivers making in a year? Were the drivers happy and how was the turnover or working conditions at beneto? -
Yes Beneto required us to polish the trucks, on our time. That was how we got our bonus. I used to do it at the stations or at the rack while I was getting paid. That could be why management gave me such grief. I'd say most of the drivers were happy to a point, it was the only company I worked for that you weren't a senior driver after 6 months. Driver pay would end up at about 50 to 75K a year, depending on how hard you worked, and what terminal you were out of. I'd say the turnover was below average for the trucking industry, people come and go. As for conditions, they treated you bad, but the money was good. The place was/ is very clique-ish, so if you weren't in the right clique, you ended up like me. you can look at my other posts concerning KAG and get my perpective on my experiences. HEY; I've been having phone problems, tell Demond I said HI! If you tell him my screen name he'll know who you're talking about. He can tell you a bit about me, hopefully good stuff, but some bad too I'm sure. If it sounds really bad or crazy, it's probably true
be safe out there, and have a happy holiday!

I've worked with and have known Demond for many years at Beneto and KAG. He's a good man. If you need any advice, ash him, he's very knowledgeable.
YOUNGSTER Thanks this. -
I will tell Demond tomorrow lol. My dad has worked for hunt and sons for 30 years. His name is Dale, do you know him? Semi driver
-
Yeah, I think I've heard of him, but I always worked the night shift, so I don't think I've really met him. I've heard Hunt and sons is a good company to work for. A lot former Beneto drivers went to work there, but FDS is really good too. Keep the shiny side up and the chained up side down.

Where are you working now?
-
I'm not. I'm disabled now. I tore up the ligaments / tendons in my right hand in a work related injury. then my knees gave out due to other health issues. ( osteo-arthritis, gout, and a heart murmer, and a heart condition known as Mitral Valve Prolapse) I do volunteer work 4hrs a day, 2 days a week at a educational center in Santa Cruz. After that, I'm pretty much down for the count. It's been over a year since I applied for social security disability, since they have not denied it, they may be about to approve it. I would like to work,( hence the volunteering) but I could not climb up into a truck, let alone push in the clutch, pull hoses, lift any thing. I know the money is good and we would all like to have 'stuff'. but set a good amount of money aside outside of your 401K. if it wasn't for my savings, I'd be homeless. Be safe out there.
