Hello practice will help him get through this but sometimes we can over think the situation shifting, turns ect. and make mistakes. Often i have seen one instructor to 5 or more students at a time in the truck and the peers watching talking, laughing don't help. Tell him to relax and focus on the task at hand he will do fine, Prayer helps....

I was just telling my own experience, I'm no age researcher. I feel like I don't get rattled by a whole lot anymore, but I found it strange that having to take a test felt so weird. I've been on my own, running my own business for 10 years, and having to go in and take a test was odd to me. I remember thinking how weird it would have been if it had been twice as long since I'd taken a test before. Perhaps it's just me. I've always felt that being good at something isn't always the same as being good at taking a test for it. Being able to maintain yourself in a testing situation is perhaps a skill of it's own, and if you don't continue to hone it, it seems to go away. My mistakes the first 2 times I tested where absolute dumb mistakes. I screwed up on the stuff that to me seemed the easiest and nailed all the things I thought was hard. I felt like it took 2 tests for me to get used to the "test atmosphere" which admittedly sounds stupid. I was mostly trying to sympathize with the OP's husband, as he can practice truck driving all he wants, but you can't practice test taking, except by taking tests. Just another way of looking at failing the test I suppose. Coming at it from B-trucks I would imagine would be an advantage as you'd already have done some testing for driving in front of cops and have more of a sense of shifting, airbrake test, preptrip rather than coming in at it from a D-license. I think the suggestion of trying a different instructor/location might be a good idea. Maybe he just has bad chemistry with that particular cop and something about the guy throws him off.

NOTHING about your post sounds stupid, mugurpe! There are many people who excel at "taking tests," that flatly are not able to perform the job in the real world. For the rest of us, the more tests we take, the better we become at it. I found this out the hard way, getting into law enforcement. I'd be fine with the written test, but then freeze up on the oral boards. Happened more times than I cared to think about.

Once I got past the testing process though, I did fine.

I have great news for all my trucking friends here ! My husband PASSED his test. His instructor scheduled him on a Saturday saying he probably will not have a trainee tester in the truck over the weekend ! He was right !!! My husband was much more confident with hust his examiner in the truck during the test.. did great and PASSED!!!! Thank you for all your support!

During training it was just 3 to a truck. During the test he had one examiner and another who was training to be an examiner . That freaked him out because they used to talk and discuss every mistake or whatever... SO the last test was scheduled for today ( Saturday !) and he had just one examiner and PASSED.. Thank you for your kind message.. This forum has been so so supportive
