Tankers out of Charleston is the best I found so far.

I spoke with Greatwide freight in my area. After year I could do local, regional or OTR team. After 12 weeks training I would be making the same as a seasoned driver. E logs, no forced dispatch, they are LTL, pay for each stop, detention pay, all passes needed, great home time after training, orientation pay, all benefits, idle as you need to stay warm or cool, Can't go solo until I have a year under me, but I'm not looking at that as a negative thing though. A friend who works with them has confirmed everything I was told and more. I think It sounds great, how about you?

All the good things appear to be there for someone new. Non forced dispatch is good. Don't get refuse happy on loads. Run all loads first, even when a load looks like a total loser it can turn out to be just fine. I only refused loads that didn't jive with my schedule or had just been total fails time and time again. Don't start working during your breaks. Its a slippery slope. Good home time and a liberal idle policy will keep you comfortable.
I say go for it.Chaps Thanks this. -
Thanks for the input icsheeple. If all this was just coming from the recruiter I would think it sounded to good, but with my neighbor/friend confirmed what the recruiter had told me then yeah I think it sounds solid. I have a couple other company's close to me that also have good reps that I have spoken with but do not have all details of them yet. Yeah my first year I will have to do whatever anyway being a team driver. I don't know I would have much say so being a rookie anyway.

Oh, icsheeple I did check out Old Dominion and the closest to me is about 2.5hrs away. Seem to be a good company though from what I'd read.

although it is possible to get a local gig, going OTR is much easier, once you get close to finishing your training obtaining your CDL, start calling local companies, asking if their taking apps? on their apps will show what their experience is required, they may tell this on the phone, good luck

I was born and raised in Mass. have family still there, tell me all the time they see driving jobs listed for $10. per hour, Sorry, i would ever consider it
-
No one said it was impossible, but your is not the norm, like one said its about location, your in chitcargo, he's in Indiana, might not have the same options you had
-
Aso, location and cost of living in that area play a big part as well. $18 /hr in one location may be equivalent to $10 /hr in another area based on the costs of living. Something to consider. It all boils down to what someone needs to make it in their particular situation.
