Generally used for additional traction on snow or ice in hilly, mountainous terrain. Also can be used off road in the mud, such as the oil patch, they sort of act as crude paddles in the mud.
If conditions warrant them, it's much easier to put them on before you get stuck, than it is to put them on after you are stuck.conjuntoron Thanks this. -

If you do not know what tire chains are for or what they do, then you should not be driving a commercial vehicle.joseph1135 Thanks this.

You would be surprised at how many times I have been asked, "how do you put these things on?" even by coworkers.

Good to see how much exercise you can get in one day. Husband put on twice one day. The first go round, after he got them on the chain law was lifted, so off they came. The second round he wouldn't have made it to the top of the hill he said.
He also has a whole bunch of new squeaks in his cabinet doors now from the vibration. Oh fun, more noise.knuckledragger Thanks this. -
Alright Joe! We're not all fat! Not to mention if I can chase lil honeys for another day instead of gettin all wet and nasty messin with those flipping chains, who's gonna blame me, right?
