I may possibly go to work for a company that doesn't have cb's in the company trucks. You can put one in if you want it, but from what cb talk I've heard in the past and talking with a couple drivers who don't use one say"all you hear is BS and trash talk and will sometimes get to a newer driver while trying to learn maneuvers on the road distracted". I had a couple of thoughts that one would be nice for but that's what smart phones can be used for these days(not while driving of course) I guess. What do you think?
Worth getting a CB for the truck?

yes get a cb, many benefits for having one, road conditions, accidents and directions to name a few
Chewy352, MichianaFlat, HauntedSchizo19 and 3 others Thank this. -
I don't use one because I am in a different truck every trip. If I had the same truck everyday I would certainly have one. There are many times during bad weather or when there are accidents and you want to know what is going on ahead of you while stopped.

Running intra-state,I took mine out about 5 years ago, miss it some but I do OK without it.Used to be I would even carry a spare Cb just in case mine broke on the road. If I were OTR, yes I would have one, but it would stay turned off a lot.
If you have it, just turn it on when you want to. Those things can be aggravating.G.Anthony Thanks this. -
All you hear on the CB is "holier than thou" supertrucker trash. Nothing useful is ever said on it.

You probably should get one. There are some receivers that use them to call up drivers in line or call when they're ready for you. Honesty there's not much talk on them anymore except around a few hub cities. Or when there is a backup, getting more info about traffic and what not.
G.Anthony, Vilhiem, flood and 1 other person Thank this. -
Hi Chaps, absolutely. Most old timers will tell you they couldn't have made it without one. Like others said, getting dock directions, running with someone in the middle of nowhere. You'd be surprised the cool people you'd meet out there. And you know what is really great? It has an "on/off" switch.

Yes get one. You don't have to spend an outrageous amount on it either. You can usually find a Cobra 25 or 29 on sale and they are a good basic radio. One with Noaa weather radio is nice too, especally this time of year. A good antenna system is the important thing. As said above a lot of places use them to call you to the dock. And sometimes some conversation can make those lonely miles go by easier.

I would recommend you get one. Yes sometime there is areas where garbage mouth scumbags are trash talking. So turn it down or off. It comes in handy when there is a back up or bad weather or asking guys if a scale is open. I go to several places where you need a radio to communicate with the yard, security, and or loaders. And sometimes it is nice to chat with someone. Also you can learn things. One of my favorites is. How many bushels you got on that skateboard? I dont understand. As he laughed he said, Thousands of pounds son, How many thousands of pounds Are on your deck?.... Anyway Im glad I have one.

I have had a cb since my 1st month. As since I was with a trainer for that long, he gave me good information on how to shop for one, otherwise, I would have spent my money for the expensive stuff. They can be annoying, but it is not the fault of the radio, but rather the morons that think they are God's gift to the roads.
You might need directions, a warehouse might use them to tell you what door to go to, etc. You can get traffic information, personally I could give a flip about the "bear reports" as I move along with traffic. I do appreciate road construction delays and accident locations, and a possible "go around".
many times I will actually have it either turned off and turn it on when I need to, or I leave it on, but turn the volume way down. It's a toss up of opinions as you will read. I will highly recommend that you buy a name brand, most are made over seas, then for me, I'd say DO NOT get it tuned and peaked. Another way of saying hot-rodded. Leave it alone as far as doing any performance upgrades.
You can of course use the cb purchase as a tax write off, as you use this for your job. Your tax man should be able to also tell you this.
many brands to choose from as well as many prices to pay. In the end, after all the years of buying them,I have a sweet Cobra 25, non weather cb. Now, here too, you can get a cb WITH weather radio features, THAT can be very helpful.
Good luck, don't spend too much, I'd say around $75 to $120 dollars tops, and always, always look for sales.Chaps and "semi" retired Thank this.
