So I got a yearning to get out of this slump of being forced to stick with "Social Security for disabled" and food stamps and stuff, and it's ticking *edited for content* me off greatly, parden the pun and so I did a bit of research and found this website, I got high hops for this career, and to answer several questions ahead of time I have the following.

    A: Good health
    B: Speaks English
    C: Have a drivers license
D: and lastly I have tons of time to spare.

Now my questions for those who would want to know about me but I dont' know how to ask them...but i can ask the first one that is on my mind.

I have a form of high functioning autism which keeps me from learning at a fast pace like most folks here. Is there assistance for schooling with folks such as myself with this sort of disability?

I look really forward to being a long hauler in the future. And finally making a name for myself

Will you lose Social Security benefits if you become a trucker?
You can try for free CDL school by applying at the unemployment office.
You will also have to pass a DOT physical before being accepted into a CDL program.

Yes i will lose my benefits per dollor I make which is why I wanted to go into the trucking business and make money instead of being stuck in the house for 9 years starting on my 20th birth day unfortunately. As for the DOT physicals I'm sure I can pass those I'm a pretty healthy guy and I do work out a little. But I feel like a couch potato lol. And my vision isn't awful.

Put your location on your profile so we know the hiring area you live in.

Check with the unemployment office about CDL school funding. They may want 2 or 3 pre-hire letters from trucking companies before approving funding, but that's no problem. Get back on this forum and we'll help you get those.

OK good. Georgia pays for CDL school through the Hope Grant using lottery proceeds; if you qualify. Check on that through the unemployment office.

The unemployment office in Georgia pays for CDL school at various places such as community colleges.

If funding is available, Goodwill Industries pays for CDL school. That information is somewhere on their website or maybe Google for it.

My first question is - Do you like to drive all day?

A cdl is much more in depth ... If you need extra time to study/learn some states have the cdl manual online with sample test I know AZ does, or you can pick up the paper manual at a MVD/DMV office near you.

Maybe by getting a head start on the manual, will make the schooling easier ... I can just read a book, some people need it explained to them.

I'm not real up to date on autism ... But, my understanding is that most people that have it have a very highly tuned area that they are very good at, which tends to take away from other areas ... Other than a learning disability, do you have another area you don't do well with? What is the area you are very good with?

You're right about that, but as for me, I sometimes have to take extra time to wrap my head around something, I imagin I wont' be long hauling 14 hours a day jobs across state lines as I am quite capable of doing long drives since I go to my grandparents every holiday or so which is 5 hours a drive depending on traffic, sometimes 3.

As for areas of expertise, well, I don't have any real issues I mean I can read and write, it just takes a little longer, I always need to write down notes or have notes for me to help me remind myself of certain things especially when it comes to inspecting my cargo container, or my rig ect ect.

Anywho, the worst thing I have going for me right now is my attention span, once I have a focus though you'll find me doing my job to the letter 95% of the time. I won't lie it's a strange thing this learning issue is of me, but I'm doing better with it and slowly learning lots of new talents I mean hell now I can paint porches and stuff for my parents so that says a lot.
