A few weeks ago I drove a 2014 ProStar that had a green light illuminate on the display when it was the optimal time to shift. It annoyed me too, because the dang thing kept going off as I was shifting.

I drove one of those ProStars too, and I covered the light up with tape. You're right. It is irratating. As far as needing such a device, I think an experienced driver, even after suddenly having to slow down, should be able to tell by his road speed what gear he needs to be in.
Flybynight041 Thanks this. -
I'm calling BS on your 1st statement......Hire an experienced driver....all this thing is designed to do is to separate you from your money.... even if it costs a bit more , your money is way better spent on a driver with the experience to know how to shift and when. Too many variables to be considered by an electronic machine... if not buy a truck with an auto transmission...Giggles the Original, OldHasBeen and MJ1657 Thank this.

Lol, that's like the shift light that GM put in cars and trucks with no tachometer.Flybynight041 and Cetane+ Thank this.

When I was in school, there was a truck equipped with a gizmo called a gearmaster on the dashboard. I liked it back then, but I don't think it is a good thing for a driver to use.
