ok,i let a few slide,BUT U CANT BE THIS SERIOUS RIGHT? Listen i want you to say it with me ok CUSTOMER SERVICE,once again CUSTOMER SERVICE,now say it slow CUSTOMER SERVICE, now a tad bit Slower your doing Good,"Cus-tom-er Serv-ice"
Ok one last time now nice & slow Custom -Cusstom "Custom-er Serv-ice"
The service is Customized not Regular service.

Ill put it to you this way When you go shopping for a suit, would you rather buy off the RACK or get a CUSTOM TAILORED suit to fit you where it shows off your Intrest, assets specifically designed with you in mind and you know everytime you put that suit on you feel like a million bucks, because its tailored,

    well
THATS DA SAME WAY OUR CUSTOMERS FEEL WHEN WE TAKE CARE OF THEM,they LOVE IT,& We LOVE to deliver TOP NOTCH SERVICE & GET PAID WELL FOR IT

SAME DIFFERENCE,I hope i didnt confuse you!

do you Understand the difference now between MEGAS and OWNER OPERATORS,i hope you got it by now, WE PROVIDE "Custom Service" tailored to our customer not just a Run of a mill of high turn-around,Revolving door Drivers that MEGAS use,Drivers today are too Disposable to MEGA CARRIERS

ALOT OF CUSTOMERS Prefer to see a FAMILIAR RELIABLE FACE DELIVERING THERE PRODUCT,& NOT A REGULAR driver, who ink is barely dry on ther Cdl,no DISRESPECT to any NEW DRIVERS weve all been there at some point or another,

Ive had CUSTOMERS send me Turkeys,Christmas Gifts, because WEVE DEVELOPED BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS and they APPRECIATE MY SERVICE,

when you start HEARING " I REALLY APPRECIATE IT,COULDNT OF DONE IT WITHOUT YOU,CAN YOU HELP ME OUT,THANKS FOR GETTING ME OUT THIS BIND,which means you just dont give the average service that everyone else offers,

Theres a old saying "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" & alot of ROOKIES have CREATED A DEMAND for OWNER OPERATORS,believe it or not we need someone to MAKE US LOOK GOOD LMAO

There are customers who prefer US,simply because they know we take care of them the RIGHT WAY,ALL THE TIME

I dont do FAVORS PRICE WISE,BECAUSE NO BROKER IS GOING TO DO YOU A FAVOR,PRICE WISEbut if i can help at my PRICE then i will.

If something breaks WE will get it FIXED right away,WE will make sure come HELL or HIGHWATER that load will get there NOT JUST on time,in the SAME MANNER IT WAS PICKED UP,SAFELY,but sometimes EARLY,

You must REMEMBER go back and look at TRUCKING INDUSTRY HISTORY,it all started with one guy,a dream he had & a TRUCK,

Hey DRIVER,Remember this for as long as you live,THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE TO SCREW THINGS UP & ALWAYS SOMEONE WHO HAS TO COME FIX IT,what end are you on,i know what End im on lol
Continue being a driver its obvious you dont UNDERSTAND HOW THIS BUSINESS WORKS

    wish you the best "DRIVER"

Agreed, if headed to a good pay load, if you can find something that will at least cover cost of getting there or close to it, it better than taking it out of your pocket

Umm... Walmart is becoming a beached whale. By focusing solely on price, they've cornered the market on hiring from the bottom of the barrel, and now their stores reflect it. The people they cater to - the very low income/welfare crowd - are either finding elsewhere to shop, or are running out of money. People who have money are tired of shopping where People of Walmart shop, the isles and shelves are a mess, only a couple of lines are open, and the prices are very close, or worse, than their corner supermarket.

Yep... Walmart is succeeding its way out of the market.

    Cheap freight vs deadhead...

the factors that I look at are

    1. Time. You box guys couldn't drop and hook faster than you could deadhead. Plus, depending on your circumstances, that time traveled can be logged as personal conveyance, and count as part of a 34 hour restart (the old rolling restart), and you are exempt from the 11/14 hour regs.

    2. Fuel. Ever notice how cheap loads are heavy?

    3. Your name. There are some higher end loads out there that pay stupid money. Thing is, if you haven't made a name for yourself with a certain broker or agent or shipper, you won't see those loads. Someone already mentioned that some shippers are willing to pay more for quality. Absolutely. Two working girls compared numbers, one a high end call girl and the other a lot lizard. The high end girl said that she made $10grand last week. The lot lizard said that she made $10grand also. The high end girl said that she only got porked once.
Same concept goes for drivers. Two drivers sat down to compare notes. Both made $250k. One of them ran less than 100 k with 40% deadhead! and the other ran 150k with 8% deadhead. Which one makes more money? If you have to pull cheap loads in order to stay afloat, you need to either raise your standards or get out of the business.

Its funny how you see bottom feeder companies advertising how they pay $.90+fuel to owner operators all miles. That's cheap even for lot lizard standards. $.90/mile and 150000 miles a year. Why would anyone buy a truck and attempt to run a truck the same way the bottom feeders pay their drivers? The load pays lots more than what they pay their drivers. Why is Swift even in a discussion in an owner operator forum?

I think that jabber1990 is either trolling or a ABSOLUTE GREEnhorn, he doesnt understand the Business Format "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY"you want the cheap product that cost $350 and will last 3-6 months then brake and end up spending double that amount,or you pay $1500 and have it last 4-5 years?

Your money, its only so much EXPLAINING we can do,just like driving a truck you wont fully understand how to make money until you get in the driver seat and start SHiFTING GEARS,you can FANTASIZE all you want, but until you ACTUALLY do it you wont UNDERSTAND IT!

I cant wait for the recourse on this but cheap freight does work in some circumstances

As an independent with no direct customer base dead head is better than cheap freight

but as a company with multiple trucks and many direct customers it actually does work. We pretty much run and out and back model. So let me give you and example.

Greenville, SC to to Gainesville, FL between 10-15 loads per week $1700.00 per load or $3.76 per mile driver needs to come back as quick as possible to get another outbound load. So we can do a couple of things. We can deadhead back to Greenville = $1.87 per mile round trip. We can go to Jacksonville where we have a customer that we do 5-6 loads per week going to Greenville, SC paying $650.00 per load = $2.57 per mile or we can go to the brokers and find a load paying in the $1.20-$1.30 range which will come out to $2.30 + per mile. Now you will say you should dead head out to where Atlanta? get a load paying $500-600 back to Greenville. This takes a day away from a driver that can be back to servicing my direct customers as opposed to doing a triangle to get back and still pays the exact same rate.

Also have to remember that the receiver is your customer's customer ...

The huge companies, Walmart, Costco, etc. rate who they will buy product from on a number of criteria, one of those is how often the truck is on time for appointment. When trucks are late it screws up their distribution system, and eventually they will buy product from someone else who can get it there when they say it will be there. A few extra bucks for the truck that gets it there pretty well 100% on time is peanuts when talking about multi million dollar sales contracts.

It works the same for what I imagine rollin coal's operation is like. A truck breaks down, and a load of whatever product if it is late and doesn't get to a factory on time, will shut down the line. Line shut down costs what, $500,000 per HOUR? I guess in some folks minds it would still be a better idea to find the $1.50 truck rather than the high dollar truck.

I don't understand how it is so difficult for some to see the whole picture ...
