First off I want to say not everyone gets fuel discounts lots of truckers pay cash price which is right around $3.00 a gal down from the $3.80 first half of 2014, that's $.15/mi less in fuel to operate my truck or $.15/mi fuel surcharge difference.
I can not understand for the life of me why brokers think rates should drop as much as fuel has, I helped a buddy out today by calling on some loads and wow these brokers are crazy what there looking at paying to move freight. Oh to TX on flatbed at $1.75/mi is crazy.
is this what we can expect from lower your prices??
Fuel drops $.80 a gal now rates are dropping $.80/mi

NO, That's NOT what you should expect
If you are in Ohio....First off Why are you using a broker?.....Cleveland/Akron area shippers are Begging for trucks
But lets just say youre using a broker....$2.30-$2.60 per mile to Texas is realistic..And That means a Big city like Houston or Dallas(Eastertn texas) If your talkin West of I-35,Its 3 per mile MINIMUM from ohio
Who's the broker gouging you like this?
If you guys don't start exposing these vulchers...Your not helping the cause or your problem........
Ive got a few 'shippers' in northeast ohio that will take on new carriers if you want to P/M me.........This is getting ridiculous, you guys letting these brokers dictate freight ratesStraitliner, kelgar50, emilyg59541 and 3 others Thank this. -
kelgar50, windsmith, Electronic Cowboy and 1 other person Thank this.

Not me I'm still on vacation😉 but I called on lots of loads 13 for a fact not one paid over $2/mi direct connect is the one that I started arguing with he said rates shouldn't ever pay $2.50/mi I about lost it until he hung up on me....
But looks like monday I'll be back at it sure was fun all this time off but I started spending to much money so got to save some now..Straitliner Thanks this. -
Rates dont drop-brokers just take more!
SHO-TYME, Tennesseahawk, BigSarge803 and 4 others Thank this. -
Why would you go for brokered loads anyways? Cant you book freight without touching a 3rd party?
-
I try to keep my cool when negotiating a rate and simply say no in a polite manner, lot of times the broker calls back and agrees to pay what i wanted for the load.some brokers i dont even bother calling cause i know all they offering is cheap freight.i study the load board evey day before making a single phone call, usually 4,5 calls and i got myself a decent load.some o/o try to preplan 2 or 3 loads in advance and that in my opinion is a mistake, brokers will always try to find a cheap carrier till the load has to move, also some loads just dont pay.

I did an excellent job for a shipper in cleveland last month(waited 10 hrs to get loaded, tarped the load almost in the dark and drove all night to deliver the load on time)guy gave me $300 extra for my effort and promised to call me everytime he needs a load moved,im still waiting for his call.
DrtyDiesel and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
i don't imagine it's just fuel lowering the rates, but i'm pretty sure there's an abundance of flatbedders looking for loads now.
oil companies are laying off. which means less pipe being hauled. that's a pretty big chunk of freight not being hauled anymore. -
Can't seem to get the pump price below $3 up here in the northeast. (I don't have a mega carrier fuel kick back)
Cetane+ Thanks this.
