I really can't say. I would say no but you might want to call recruiting to make sure.

Most training is 250 hours. Cargo's is 8 weeks but it's really a big help to the trainee.

    Hey smurf-316.

Like one other poster on here, I've read every single post and you've really captured my attention! I'm at the point right now where I'm ready to make a transition.

I have 15 years in the industry. In the last 10 years, I can offer 9 years OTR; the last 4 have been as a local flatbed driver. Home every night and off weekends has been good but there was a change one year ago. The company I have been with decided to outsource to a Fortune 500 company. I've busted my backside and have worked harder these last four years than ever before. The money just isn't there to warrant continuing on with them. Additionally, I'm tired of tarping when it's needed, not to mention that it's flat out dangerous to crawl up on top of that load. I'll be doing plenty of that this coming week and not looking forward to it either. The appeal of getting loaded through the back end of a big box and closing the doors is something I'm ready to do again.

My wife and I are in agreement about me returning to regional driving and being out several nights a week. I have 10 years of dry van and don't want to do flatbed anymore. Being home on weekends is a wonderful option it seems that CT has. Plus I've seen their rigs and they look sharp!

I have some unanswered questions and would appreciate your time to answer them.

The battery powered APU system has me concerned. Perhaps it was because when I had that setup with a previous company, there just wasn't enough power available. Could you please share how good yours works.

Are battery hardwired inverters allowed? A fuse or breaker isn't a problem with me.

Another concern is about speed. In my opinion, slow trucks are the BANE of this industry. My truck currently does 71 but a warning beeper goes off at 70 and 69, so I run it at 68 to keep it under the radar. What is the current speed of your trucks?

I haul heavy loads, generally in excess of 45,000 pounds. Then again, it's flatbed and to be expected there. I have a Cummins ISX 15 with 450 HP and the engine does a really nice job pulling these loads! What kind of engines do you have and what is their rated horsepower?

My flatbed is a leaf spring and those bumps are really felt! Are your trailers airride and is it an all 53' fleet? 48 footers are cool too if you have them but not a sticking point here.

You mentioned about in-cab cameras that face both ways. Can you confirm that the curtains would cover the camera that faces inward?

It sounds to me like you've found a really great company and have been so straight forward to share your good fortune to fellow drivers! That has been refreshing and I thank you for that! Nothing better than drivers helping other drivers.

Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you!
    Best, Mike

Well thanks for taking the time to read it all.
I'll try to answer as best I can without missing anything.

The battery powered APU's we have has been good in my experience. If you run the AC you can expect between 8 and 10 hour run time with all the other stuff plugged in. I commonly run my Laptop, Power Inverter, Fridge and mini cooler for 10 hours with no problem.

Yes! Power inverters ARE allowed as long as they are installed by the SHOP. NO Driver installs!!

Our truck are set at 63mph. I know it is a little slow but our trip are set up for this and time is also allowed for this when you are planned. I would not look for this to change anytime soon as it makes the Insurance cheaper and the fuel economy much better. But I guess I'll have to take the good with the bad.

I wanna say out engines are 450hp but don't hold me to it. We pull a lot of light loads. 70% off our loads are less than 35,000.

All trailers are Wabash 53' air ride with air tandems and air release king pins.

The camera does not record unless you do something to set it off. You can pull the curtain in front of it when you take your break.

Cargo is set up to run during the week with the driver getting home on Friday or Saturday. Some drivers take 36 hours off and some take 48. I take 48 myself. Some drivers like to leave on Sunday and some prefer to leave on Monday. I would much rather leave on Sunday but again it's up to you. I won't blow smoke up your butt and tell you the sun will shine on you everyday at CT. Like other companies there will be things you won't like. I had a week I only got 1600 miles and I was upset about it. But that rarely happens so I just move on. Being in the trucking industry for about 20 years myself, I know whats out there and I've heard all the promises. Cargo is up front with you and they will tell you the truth. I won't say you can't find a better company than CT. I WILL say if you want to earn a decent pay check, Be home on weekends, Drive well maintained trucks and be treated fairly, then CT is a good company to go with.

Many thanks for taking ample time to answer my questions! Right now, I have an email in their inbox to see if they accept drivers from my location. That would be I-20 near Augusta, GA. I'm not sure of they will, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Heavy loads are my lot right now as a flatbed driver, so your information is very refreshing!

I'm looking over other companies and have my application in with 3 others. A change is coming but it's only a matter of knowing who wants me bad enough. And I've disqualified quite a few already. Yes, I'm picky and won't work for just anyone. But it just might be interesting to see if CT makes it on my short list. We will see in just a few days then go from there.

Many thanks again for your valued time to fill me in on some details. Safe travels to you out there. Who knows? You just might see me coming onboard with CT!
