I've got a 03 columbia with a 430/470 60 series with about a million miles on her. Never been touched. I bought it 2 years ago and run it in the oilfield, needless to say 430 even with 4:30 gears is just underpowered in the mud pulling 100000lbs. I didn't dare do any ecm tunes or anything on it with a million on it, that would be suicide.
This #### thing just won't die and runs so good and strong it's utterly ama zing but my question is for when it finally does bite the bullet.
I've been told 2 different things by 2 different detroit guys. One said when I do a rebuild I can just buy the 500 kit and I'm good to go (bigger injectors, turbo etc) but another guy said you can't do that...... so any thoughts on that?
Next question. If I were to buy a junk yard special 500 with ecm, are the wiring and plugs similar? I sure love me my junkyards.

the block should be the same i see no reason why you cant rebuild it as a 500. i believe 430/470 can be flashed to 500 without any hard parts.

It's all in the computer just bump it up to 500

I had a detroit dealer hook to my ecm and they said 430 is my max and also the injectors and turbo is different.

Sorry. I should change that lie...... I had a Freightliner dealer hook up.

I have a12.7 it's been turned up to 550hp, 2200 lbs of torque. It's all in the computer it's originally a 430/500. What freighterliner will tell you is different from what can actually be done. My motor was inframed at 1.1million and I have almost 600,000 on it. I pull 98,000
