Thanks, kemosabi49 - That's good information. I'll contact CA truck stops and see which ones may already have a DOT Examiner on site. Might be able to work with one and expand the hours they are open - offer evening and weekend apointments if they are not already.

Thanks, 30-aught-6 - thanks for the encouragement - one of the reasons I want to do this business plan (no big office) is to keep my overhead low so owner operators can afford it. I definitely want to make it easier for truckers to get their med certification. If you don't mind me asking, what have you found is the going rate for a DOT exam? If you let me know I could give you an idea if I think I could beat it with a mobile service.

Both of those considerations make sense, crzyjarmans - I don't think the service would be for everyone - I'm sure lots of truckers would prefer to go to an office and have more choices about who their examiner is. I'm just thinking there may be some truckers who would prefer the idea of not having to leave the comfort of their home on their day off, especially if the cost of the exam was reasonable.

No problem,The last one i had i beleive it was around $70 bucks,i would have to look at the receipt for sure, but since they changed things up, everything went up.

I usually go to the Chiropractor at the Iowa80 truck stop in Walcott Iowa for my medical

Glad to hear there are others already serving truckers at truck stops. Appreciate you letting me know.

I use my family doctor who I have used since the first one. Although since the changes and having to be certified he went up to 200 dollars which is steep. He says it's because there is so much more paperwork. I have heard of converted RV's going to truck stops and doing them but never seen one.
Doc my my hats off to you for looking for ways to make it easier on us.DocSavageSD Thanks this. -
Usually, Doc's that do CDL physicals do them as a "sideline". You should calculate your time (maybe 2 physicals per hr?) in an office setting. Would that scenario make you enough $$$ to survive ? I doubt it. Now also calculate doing in home physicals in a 50 mi. radius. I don't think you would have enough drivers on a daily basis to keep you busy. You would need 8 drivers each day wanting in home physicals. I don't see that happening. Therefore, you need to add physicals to your current biz. There are Docs I've seen operating out of a RV in a truck stop parking lot, or directly next door in a dirt lot. The truck stop would want a "cut" if you operated from their lot. I've also seen office set-ups in a truck stop like Iowa-80 ,or another one in Commerce City, Co.

I say charge $500 per physical. Use a beat van with advertising on the side "Everyone Passes". Move around daily. Rake it in until you get caught.

thanks, wore out - that does sound pretty steep. Do you have to pay that yourself - do you get reimbursed for that or are you independent? Have you been able to write it off as a business expense? Pardon if that sounds snoopy, I'm trying to get a handle on what's wanted and needed (I wouldn't charge anywhere near that but I don't know what kind of overhead your doc has.)
wore out Thanks this.
