I have a weird question. I already have my CDL and medical card, and I'm on my way to do a pre-employment physical and drug test for a new company who wants to hire me. I already know my blood pressure is going to be around 150+. Does anyone know if the company could deny me employment because of this even though I already have my medical card, and for some reason could my DOT medical card be revoked?

I don't think there's a way to get your medical card revoked... I mean, unless they physically take it away from you, since it largely seems to be on the honor system, but if your company physical involves a BP screening having it over 150 is probably gonna be an issue. You should try to see a doc and get on some bp meds, and start drinking a ton more water. That's not healthy to begin with.

I wouldn't expect to get denied a card, but I would expect that if you were recently issued a two year card...and your BP is now higher for some reason...the person giving you the physical will issue you a card for a shorter length (i.e. One year for x < 160 systolic). If your systolic is 160+...you're looking at a three month card. If you haven't done so already, I'd get that BP checked out (I've been on BP meds for a while now).

So what you're saying is that they would take away my 2 year card and give me a 1 year card? my BP is between 150-160 the last time I took it, but that was after drinking a bunch of lemonade lol

Correct. If you go in with BP that high, you will not be walking out with a two year medical card. If you got a two year card with BP that high, your physician screwed up.

That med card is yours to keep. But for this company you'll still need to take a physical by their doctor because more then likely their insurance company requires it.If your BP is too high you may get disqualified but not the med card you have now.

Not true,I had a med card and took a physical failed because my bp was too high but I kept the card and used it with another company that only required a drug test.

I'm struggling to wrap my head around this sentence. Doesn't the DOT mind that you failed a DOT physical, but continued to operate commercial vehicles?

Well you passed the original DOT physical so you're good....in the eyes of the government. I don't think the employer mandated physical is reported to DOT, it just contains what the DOT physical would originally.

I'm not sure...but the way the new rules are written , if you don't pass the requirements for a 2 year card , then you aren't gonna be able to use that card for employment. If you have a BP of over 140 for the top number , and over 90 for the lower one , then you'll more than like be issued a new 1 year card and be told to destroy the old one....then it's up to you whether you do or not. Or it could possibly cause you to have to re-examined at a later date after you've been prescribed some BP medication. I'm only assuming this stuff. I'm guessing it would be up to the physician doing the examining.
