I've been using it for 3 years. I will say it worked well when I was running under my own numbers and easy to send out invoices and did everything I needed.
I should have said it lacks for a leased owner/op. Now, I am leased onto a company. I have yet to find a simple way to enter settlements and separate the settlement deductions into expenses. -
Do you need to go in and manually change the payroll tax rates each year or does the software automatically download new rates when they are available? -
What are you currently using? Most of these software companies have an online tutorial or free trial where you can try their software to see if it will work for your situation. Taking advantage of a free trial would be the easiest way to make a decision.

The software knows the rates automatically except for taxes that vary by employer.. For instance Pennsylvania's SUI (State Unemployment) contributions.
I am still using Quickbooks online. I am currently doing a trial of profitgauges which is excellent for keeping track of settlements but it does not do payroll. It seems like it would be really great for a sole proprietor.
ETA: Quickbooks Online Payroll also allows you to e-file tax payments right from their software. That part is great, too. -
I think that I looked at profitgauges at one time. It has been a long time, so I don't remember much about the software. I believe you could only access the program online rather than operating from your own computer. That may be the way things are heading, but I have never been comfortable relying on an outside source to maintain all of my business records.
The Truckers Helper has several different packages based upon your needs and size. They did have a payroll feature in one or more of their larger programs. I don't remember if they have the tax tables built into the software. It might be worth checking out to see if it might work better in your situation.HDFatboy Thanks this.
