Hello all. I am considering driver training through the gov's 2nd career funding. I am just trying to figure out if its a good choice for me. I have some physical limitations, so I would need to find work that involves mostly driving and not a lot of physical stuff. I can handle small amounts of physical work but I def couldnt be loading and unloading freight everyday. What I would like to know is what type of trucking jobs I would be looking at and what sort of earnings an experienced driver could earn. I have been looking at some job adds but truthfully I am not inclined to believe the earnings they claim are typical. I dont want to take the training for nothing. Appreciate any info I could get.
Thanks
Possible newb could use some help.

Go into liquid bulk. Pump on and pump off.

I thought about that. I just wasnt sure how heavy the hoses are. Is this considered a decent paying option?
-
Hoses can get heavy, and frozen stiff.
There is a pin-to-pin option you could pursue with a large carrier just running terminal to terminal. Those runs are usually nights and set aside for cream of the crop.
Maybe you should look into office work. Work on the road 'usually' requires some sort of physical output. -
Thanks. lol. Office work would not be a good fit for me. I'd go batty. I can do mild to moderate physical work.I cant do hrs of it every day though. Im not expecting to find a driving job with zero physical work.

refer doesnt usually require alot of work. dry van can often be the same way. LTL and city P/D can present a lot of work, as well as flat bed.

Great thank you. I see nobody has commented on income for these jobs. Is it that bad ..lol

What's your location?
A friend of mine just got his AZ and he got into a job doing auto parts runs. Night and day shifts but he is on nights. Take a trailer from the yard to the plant, drop it, pick up another trailer and bring it back to the yard, go home. They even give him a new volvo daycab with only 2 pedals on the floor. Easy peasy. Money isn't bad either ... Pays about 200 per day, takes about 10 hours and drives roughly 400 miles. 5 times per week. -
I am in peterborough. That sounds like a good gig. I could handle something like that.

If you google "peterborough, on trucking companies" you get this

The auto parts might not be available because of your location ... but there may be some other jobs hauling fuel and what not.
