Take it as a good thing man, I've never heard anything bad about either to be honest but I just pull a giant cold box around so what the **** do I know? I can tell ya this, if you can find a GOOD small company you'll be much happier being a person and not a truck#. Just my opinion ofcourse but I would never work for a large company again.

Check out Leavitts Freight Service. Out of Springfield Or. We have many guys that run I-5 or western 11 that get lots of home time. Also have a heavy haul division, and OTR of course. I work there and run short haul (Or, WA, Canada). Best place I have ever worked, in any industry. We seem to growing at a god rate. I heard we are getting 60 new trucks this spring. I have met some Melton, System and COTC guys. All seem pretty cool, and happy. That says alot when drivers are happy. Good Luck.

As far as schools... I will say from what I say they are all pretty bad around here, lol.. I have read reviews, talked to the schools, and done campus tours and it really seems to me to be just an expensive formality toward getting a class A. Like one of the recruiters I am dealing with has said... it seems like I pretty much just prove I can actually drive a truck with trucking school, then expect to forget everything and learn the real way once I am getting trained with the trucking company. Either way I believe I have chosen United Truck Driving School out of San Diego, and Riverside I like that fact that when I have dealt with them there has been no sales pitch of any kind, and they're class curriculum is actually laid out in their course outline and readily printable from their website.. so at least they seem pretty straight forward about where my 5000 dollars is going.... and unlike another school who tried to explain the merits of starting with a synchronized 6 speed then driving a 10 speed for a couple days... United say it will be a 10 speed the whole time and was able to tell me exactly how many hours per day behind the wheel I would get.
I know this is an old topic but, If you're still around, did you go to any school? I live in Murrieta and have the same trouble. I cannot find a school that will make me believe I will not throw my money away. United seem to be the best of the poor choices I have. I like better the idea of going out of state from training and then transfer it to Cal. Please respond if you can.
