K100C engine swap...

    His '76 project hasnt even started yet, so nowhere near completion...trying to reconfigure the C16 at the moment. Info I have is yes, the grill is alot narrower, but the engine tunnel itself behind the grill is only 1.5" narrower then an E cab. I verified this with a guy this mornin who has an '83 he put a 550 ACERT in and he used a fatory rad and air to air from an E cab, more then enough room to get er in there...

    The 83 is a wide grill, the issue is not with the engine fitting.

    The engine will fit fine, the issue I was more concerned about was how an air to air would fit in there n if the factory rad would somewhat accomodate it...

    I am going out on a limb but I think if this were a Pete cabover you would have serious issues with the radiator/ grill opening. I drove a '94 Pete 362 at one time. The Cat dealer said an engine larger than a 400 hp. wouldn't get enough air through the grill for cooling.

    That makes no sense what so ever, most of the last 362 trucks were built with 550HP C15s, they were installing 450hp and up engines in the late 70s with no issues either.

    Yea...the 3408 started at 450 HP if I remember correctly, they were seen alot in a a COE n they never had known overheating issues. This thread isnt about Pete COE's anyways, Im trying to get info on a KW. This 'CAT' guy you talked to probably shouldnt even be giving advise on how to change oil...

    Yeah, the wide grill measures out to be 1360 sq-in, the narrow grill is 1200 sq-in, I have no issues with keeping a hot big cam cool. The 362 mentioned measures out at around 1500 sq-in.

    From the info I have already, the rad and air to air from an 'E' cab will fit just fine in a 'C' cab. Only issue might be is moving the rad back a few inches to allow room for an air to air to squeeze in. I will have to double check that with the guy who just recently did a C15 ACERT swap in an '83 K100C

    Again, the cabs are not the same. Notice the distance between the sides of the grill and hinges, it isn't just sheet metal that covers up the extra space.
