Buddy of mine gave me a galaxy dx 929 says once in awhile it just shuts if and if he flicks the bottom by the speaker it would come back on. Is there an easy fix to this maybe a weak solder I could fix up to make it stay on. Any suggestions are appreciated would love to get this to stay on and replace it with my cobra 29 lx.

sounds like a loose solder joint problem...If it is, one way to find the problem is to take off the top cover so you can see the back side of the board where all the soldered stuff is at... take a pencil with a eraser on it, and go around all the solder points touching the eraser to the solder joints with the radio turned ON...Once you touch the eraser to a loose connection the the radio will flicker on and off, and you have found your problem...
If that all checks out, then take the bottom cover off, and look around the back side of the radio where the power wires come in and attach to the board, and take your pencil and gently poke around and see if the radio cuts on and off. -
Ok I'll try that. Are the Galaxy dx 929 good radios barefoot? Are there any mods for them?

I'm not a big fan of mods, but you can check out cbtricks.com and see if there's something listed you would be interested in...The Galaxy 919 and 929 are basically the same radio, except the 929 has the back lit face plate. There not bad little radios, I had a 919 and didn't ever have any issues. basically there sorta like a Cobra 29.

Also thought you had to mod for bigger better to talk som skip on mobile.

If your wanting to talk skip from a mobile, you have two choices...
1. Get a Amp.
or
2. Get a radio that has SSB...A stock SSB radio like the Galaxy 959 or 979 has enough power from the factory to make SSB contacts in DX from a mobile with a decent antenna...Not saying it's "Not possible" to make DX contacts with just a AM radio, it's just allot easier with a SSB radio...
The SSB channels that are mostly used are channels 36-40 in the LSB mode. (no one uses the USB...least not in the U.S.)
You almost have to be using a Amp in a mobile to be able to make DX contacts on the regular AM channels...A Base is a little different, on a Base you would be using a much larger antenna (hopefully) and allot higher up in the air, so a stock base radio would work for DX contacts where a mobile is just going to get covered up... -
Yeah I got the tc-300 amp
