Because there's something wrong with you. But we've established that long ago. An APU is a solution to a problem. Truck idles, engine is stressed under all the idling, driver needs to stay comfortable to rest, and voila! A solution. One of the best ideas in trucking since the satellite radio.2Girls_1Truck, chopper103in, Bigcountry8079 and 5 others Thank this.

they care...they love you..the checks in the mail...
antoinefinch Thanks this. -
at some point, the companies without APU's wont be about to draw drivers and then they will become standard equipment.
-
irrelevant, recruiters will just say "yes we have APU's" even if they don't
or the opposite, they'll say "no they are lying they really don't have APU's
if you get APU's they'll just give you a pay cut to pay for it
also, I've always said APU's are just a trick to get you in the door. just because they put an APU on the truck does that mean they are a good company to work for? -
If an APU is the only criteria you use for determining whether a company is good or not then yes it does.

Do you think before you speak or type? Or does it all come out like whirlwind of insanity all of the time???MJ1657, KiLLaZiLLa93 and chopper103in Thank this.

if an APU makes a company great, then explain why Prime is such a great company to work for? they have APU's so they must be a good company. then why is their turnover high and always hiring drivers?
personally I won't work for a company that has APU's because its a recruting tool and a trick to get you in the door, I also wouldn't work for a company that has a sign-on bonus because why should they have to bribe me to work for them?
all my life my parents had tried to drill in my head about "growing up" and "dealing with adversity" a lesson I finally started to learn when I lived on my own, part of learning to deal with adversity is dealing with sleeping in a cold/hot truck. yes I occasinally get a hotel (keyword is occasionally) but it was under certian circumstances, and usually all were selfish in nature
one may say "hey stupid, don't you run your HVAC at home?" to which I say "yes" but I also am not home very often, and I live with my parents, so the temperature is beyond my control. when I had my apartment I spent 2 summers without A/C because I couldn't afford it so I did live in a 90 degree home, it made me a better person as a result. and when I had to have my power shut off for those few months in the winter I lived in the cold. so i'm not trying to sound like an insane wacko, I have practiced what I preach -
An APU doesn't make a company great. An APU is a great thing to have. An APU isn't a recruiting tool. It's not something they take pay away for. An APU saves a company money by keeping idle time and engine hours low, which makes a higher resale value. It also keeps drivers well rested legally without blowing precious fuel out of the exhaust. You can practice what you preach all you want. But being warm in the winter and cool in the summer keep me rested. I will not drive or try to sleep without the ability to be comfortable. It's 2015. These aren't "luxuries" anymore. It's standard equipment in any class 8 truck.antoinefinch and chopper103in Thank this.

how do you save money by spending $10,000?
you want to save money by not Idling? prohibit idling, want to save engine hours then don't run the engine,
