Alright ladies and gents, and all you gear jamming mothers and brothers. I recieved a parking citation in Georgetown, TX, parked in a small parking lot out behind my brother's apartment for a 34 hour restart where I could spend some time with my brother and his fiance and sleep in a real bed. It's not a business parking lot, and there have been other trucks, semis, box vans, and hot shot type trucks that have parked there in the past and I have parked there multiple times in the past without any issue. But on Valentine's day I received a citation for parking a commercial vehicle in a residential area. There are no signs saying no truck parking or any signs stating that due to any city ordinance that parking of any type of vehicle is prohibited. I have pictures showing that there are no signs. And there's no signs between the ih35 exit and that spot saying no trucks allowed (if that means anything). The fine is $167.00. My question is would it gee worth trying to fight it (which if lost would get me the highest fine if I remember correctly, I haven't gotten a ticket in 4 or 5 years and that was after I got a drivers licence). Or just pay the $167.00. Driver legal plan said if they helped me reduce the fine I really wouldnt come out ahead but is there anyway out of it completely?
Got a parking Citation

It's a parking ticket, not a moving vehicle ticket. If the legal plan people said it would not be worth fighting, and you pay for their advice, why do you need advice from website lawyers like us?
Seems they gave you the best advice possible. PAY IT, and DO NOT park there again?KillingTime, LandslideRich and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
Just the simple fact they wouldn't have gotten any of my money had they had a sign telling me I wasn't allowed to park there in the first place. Wasn't trying to anger you G.Anthony.

And it really doesn't make it any easier to swallow when my truck broke down the same day I came off my 34. But you didn't know that and it really doesn't pertain to the situation.

Fight it in court take pictures show the judge, you dont need a lawyer for this just explain there was no signs and he might give you a break.guess it depends how bad you want to fight it btw its no points on dl
kbowers Thanks this. -
Unfortunately your lack of knowledge of the local ordinances does not make you less guilty. They don't put up signs that say you can't have roosters in your back yard, they just come give you the citation.

Then NEXT time you tell a story, give full details. As I said, you parked there, got a ticket, pay for it. Christ, you wanna make a federal case outta a freaking parking ticket?LandslideRich and 77smartin Thank this.

My house is in a "association". They would have the cops there in 5 minutes while I was loading fresh clothes into my truck. I fought it for years because it was OK to have parked school buses parked any wheres in the neighborhood. If the association/complex has a sign any any where within it's boundaries, or anything written into the bylaws...........you lose. All association/complexes bylaws are approved by the city/town. There doesn't need to be a sign in some cases. Some cities have laws restricting Commercial vehicles from residential areas for any reason other than deliveries. You need to check ahead next time you park.
You can fight it, but I think It will be a waste of money.
