I have been researching trucking companies for the past four months. It came down to Maverick, TMC, and McElroy. I chose Maverick mainly because of some of the threads I have read on this site. I have been very impressed with the Maverick drivers comments and the professionalism. I have been in the military since the late 80's and just finished up a few years ago. Professionalism goes a long way in my book, and I appreciate people like JimtheHut and Sarge and several others who have helped me to make up my mind over the past few months.

Jim started a thread several years ago to share his experience with Maverick and in it is a wealth of information about Maverick. This thread will be to share my experience at Maverick - from orientation through training. Of course, a job isn't offered until the Thursday of orientation week, so we will see how it goes. I will be headed to Little Rock this Saturday to start orientation on Sunday morning. To date, the entire experience has been very professional. I submitted an application several weeks ago and was contacted by Courtney. Courtney has been great. She didn't "bug" me but told me up front what to expect. Courtney called me the day after I submitted my application and said she would be checking with my contacts. The very next day, I received a call asking when I would like to come to orientation. Courtney explained to me that orientation is paid; however, a job offer is not extended until the last day of orientation (basically the fifth day). Several Maverick drivers have said to consider orientation an extended interview. I have also heard a couple of negatives on it being so long of an interview, but personally, I like it. It shows that Maverick does not just hire anyone and place them in a truck. I like the idea of selection. Today, I received a call from Courtney confirming orientation this week and again going over a few things as the weekend approaches. She even told me the exact amount I would be reimbursed for travel. Being from Georgia, I chose not to go greyhound and will rent a car and drive up. I am looking forward to this coming week and the months ahead.

Many thanks go out to Jim, Sarge, and all the others who not only drive for Maverick, but stand behind them through their professionalism and desire to get the job done. I hope to meet you all personally at some point in the future.

    Thanks, Seven.

Heading out tomorrow morning for Little Rock. My recruiter called me on Tuesday and went over things to pack. She asked several questions about my expectations from Maverick. Each question was multiple choice. After the questions, she shared what Maverick expects out of drivers. 1. Being alert, 2. Motivated and dedicated, and 3. Safety and being on time. No problems on the expectations from me. Report to orientation on Sunday morning at 7:00 am. From my understanding, Sunday is a lot of information on the company and safety. Monday begins the physical and health requirements. Plan to arrive in Little Rock on Saturday morning and will update thread on Sunday after first day.

Maverick definitely seems to be one of the good carriers out there. I've talked to a bunch of their drivers and ICs and have yet to hear a major negative (general sniping, but no major or minor red flags). I'd seriously consider them, but I'm really happy right where I'm currently at.

Best of luck with your new career, nothing wrong with Maverick, just being new to trucking I wouldn't chose a company with automatics, could make it hard to find work with another company if you ever decide to find local work or other OTR company, personally, I think it best to get proficient with shifting before moving to a automatic company, thanks you for your service and sacrifice to our country

I just finished up orientation with Bruce Oakley out of Little Rock, I am staying at the Galloway Inn and Maverick trucks are EVERYWHERE around here. I met some of the Maverick drivers staying at this hotel, they all seem very professional and they have really good looking equipment. Good luck!
